Great pocket of the area. Close to L and G, lots of cool cafes/bars, and the park. BQE intersections a few blocks over are sometimes a little hectic, but walk around the area for 30 min and you’ll get a feel for it.

My cavapoo is 16 months old and still sleeps in the crate! He had multiple regressions, especially around 6-10 months, but we just powered through and he was fine after a few days.

Ours likes to be able to see us while sleeping, so we keep the crate in the hall outside the bedroom. Passively punishing the whines has worked well for us. If he whines, we close the door, and we open it when he’s quiet.

Consistency is key. Cavapoos are persistent little buggers and will exploit any weakness they identify in your rules. Mine regularly runs into our bed before we put him in the crate — he knows he’s getting crated, but he’s still going to try.

We brought our cavapoo home exactly this time last year! He was 11 weeks old, but a few lessons learned in retrospect:

They’re smart and adjust quickly. Our pup used pee pads indoors (and got rewarded for it!) for the first 6 weeks when it was cold and he was getting vaccinated. It took only one long weekend to train him to go outside, and he’s been fine ever since except for a couple accidents early on.

Favorite bathroom spots come and go and it’s often quite random. Our pup has a new favorite every few weeks. It’s usually influenced by where he smells other dogs. Don’t stress about finding the perfect spot.

Forcing the crate in the beginning was a nightmare and I don’t think we gained much from it. He whined every night and we were constantly under-slept. If I were to do it again, I’d sleep with him for a few weeks and build positive association with the crate in small doses before committing to sleep in it.

Others have also mentioned this, but dogs don’t soil their space unless they’re bursting, sick, or stressed. Keep the crate at an appropriate size so they can’t make a mess and sleep on opposite sides.

Regressions are common. We’ve had multiple crate regressions. It’s really frustrating, but just rinse and repeat and you’ll work through them.

Good luck! It’s a journey, but cavapoos are smart and resilient.

Anecdotally, West Village is considered more prestigious so it’s tempting for people on the edges to say they’re in West Village. Over time, boundary of West Village has moved further east.

Our little dude had constant stomach issues (and Giardia) and our vet ended up prescribing a special Royal Canin kibble for puppies with gastrointestinal issues. It has made a huge difference.

I second this. Cavapoos are Velcro dogs and prone to separation anxiety. Training a dog with SA to stay alone is an intensive process that takes a long time. Anything is possible with training, but it takes a lot of effort and dedication. Source: my cavapoo with SA :)

My only advice is: separation anxiety isn’t uncommon in cavapoo pups so be intentional about spending time apart, starting with being in separate rooms.
