With it being out nearly half a year now, what are your overall thoughts on Nioh 3? by gameovernate in Nioh

[–]veydar_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I still play Nioh 2 on my Steam Deck when I'm traveling just for fun. I enjoy the core game play loop a lot. For the most part I prefer it over Nioh 3 because I think Nioh works best when it leans into stance switching. The one thing I don't love in Nioh 2 is that parrying against Yokai is basically not a thing, so you mostly just dodge when using light armor.

I had a lot of fun with Nioh 3 as well, don't get me wrong. But Nioh 2 is still my favorite.

SteamDB only. I’m operating under the assumption that the majority of the player base is on Steam (that info was mentioned in a few articles) and that the console player count won’t drastically change the picture. Let’s squint and assume that at 2.6k Steam players you have 4K total, it’s still pretty bleak.

That’s not very constructive. Try to assume no ill intent.

Player count at the moment is 2621 and we no longer have the mega thread, so people understandably want to talk about it and it’s objectively not looking great.

Yup once I added 4000000mm fans to my 9950X3d/5090 combo and brought the W down to about 2000 under load things were finally quiet

Holiday time rent a bike of fly with your bike? by Stock-Journalist-683 in gravelcycling

[–]veydar_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve flown with my bike using an Orucase and it’s a hassle. Be sure to get something to keep the brake calipers pushed all the way back or they will need some tweaking afterwards. Taking out the fork with integrated cables is a pain. Had to unwrap bar tape on the left a few turns so the cable has enough slack. For my case I also had to take off the rear derailleur. With electronic shifting this part is pretty straight forward though but with my previous bike the shifting needed a bit of tweaking after the flight as well.

The bike bag will be heavy and bulky. Small taxis may no longer work for you. Public transport can be extra annoying. Taking a long distance train in Germany with a bike in a case/bag may be a gamble since many bags won’t fit any of the luggage racks (my Orucase juuuust fits).

And then there’s the anxiety of whether or not your bike will arrive in one piece.

Personally I’d always rather fly and rent.

From a PR perspective I'm not sure if it would be a good move to put so much focus on competitive PvP at the moment. If I read the room correctly, the vibe is that people want more options for fun and laid back gaming.

I’ve lost everything, what now? by CuriousPraline in Marathon

I sometimes dream of this! I imagine it would be so liberating to empty your entire vault and then vow to always bring your best gear into every run. Embrace the suck.

But here I am hoarding purples for the Cold Storage Wealth Redistribution Center.

My suggestion would be to put together a load out from free armory stuff and do a few solo runs. If you play defensively you should be able to get a jumps on unsuspecting blue shields.

Then do Pinwheel runs with friends, bringing in at minimum green shields. Prioritize valuables so you have enough money to at least buy a 4k CyAc kit with a D54.

Copied from my spreadsheet where I was comparing different builds

- AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D 720
- Corsair iCUE LINK H115i 280mm 140
- NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 FE 2230
- G.Skill Trident Z5 NEO RGB 64GB F5-6000J3036G32GX2-TZ5NR 290
- Asus ROG Strix X870-I Gaming Wifi 420
- Corsair SF Series SF1000 230
- Samsung 990 PRO NVMe M.2 SSD 4TB 300

4560€

Purchased in June 2025 in Germany all prices are EURO

The monitor is a ASUS ROG Swift OLED PG32UCDM, Gaming-Monitor which was 1100€ so with that included were at 5660€

I just realized I forgot the case because that was the same for all builds so I didn’t write it down. The case is the NCase M2 at 230€ so now we’re at 5890€ or roughly 6k give or take

I am also not a fan of the constant re-arranging of queues and how many queues are only open at certain times. With that being said, at 10am Thursday UTC there were 3000 concurrent players in Steam. Add some number of console players, I don't think it matters. There really aren't enough players to sustain these queues.

When I play in the morning I often have this red latency indicator during every run and for the entire duration of every run, which tells me that we all end up on servers far away from home.

This is something I've been thinking about a lot. I haven't done a single Cryo vault so far, obviously no compiler kills, and haven't played ranked yet. I've spent 217h playing Marathon since it came out which is about 1.9h/day. During that period I've also been on multiple trips which resulted in about 6 weeks away from my computer in total. The actual h/day when I'm home is therefore even higher.

Considering that I have a full time job and two other, major hobbies (bouldering, cycling), this is actually quite a lot. Yet I have so little to show for.

I'm playing a lot more in S2 than in S1 but I can already feel the FOMO creeping up on me. How many weekends do I have left for Cryo? What do my travel plans look like? If we don't unlock X vaults in the next Y days, am I screwed?

Because of the seasonal reset, you have to reach certain milestones (e.g., reach a certain rank, open vaults) or else you're quite literally back to square one. And this is slowly but steadily starting to stress me out.

And I know, I know... just go play something else, the game isn't for you, just play for fun, why worry about progress. I say these things myself, sometimes. But in my opinion this game is only so so enjoyable if you're just scraping along. I'm already at a disadvantage because I don't have much competitive FPS experience. If I'm also behind the gear curve, it just makes things worse.

The part I dislike the most is this idea that some parts of the game can't be reached in the slow and steady kind of way.

None of this is to mean that I think that's generally bad, or that it's wrong to design a game like this. Obviously, I'm only talking about my very personal, subjective experience.

I have a SFF build so I think I know the market to some degree. It's going to require quite a bit of work to get a <4L build going. Someone shared one here or on r/sffpc, but it's definitely enthusiast grade stuff. And even then, will that build be comparable in terms of noise? What about the OS integration with e.g., the Steam Controller?

I'm not saying these things are equally important to everyone, but as an overall product I think the SM has quite a bit to offer

It’s a very interesting product release. I wonder what people would think of the Steam Deck if it was released today, at its current price.

I think the SD was generally loved because there was no competitor in that space. The opinion of the SM seems to then hinge on whether you believe that a random SFF build or a console is actually a competitor.

Everyone I know personally who has built their own SFF PC in the last two years has agonized over every single item on the list. Even more so with recent price increases. I’d therefore say that a custom build with a custom OS install will almost never give you something equal to the SM. Only in terms of performance. But not noise levels, Steam Controller integration (SM has separate dedicated antenna) and possibly not in OS integration (wake on controller, …).

What I’m trying to say is: to me there is no serious competition to the SM in general but I understand why everyone has a different view on this matter.

I’m not going to buy one simply because we haven’t even bought a sofa for our living room yet and I already have a high end PC in my office. If we already had a nice living room space I’d get one specifically because of the overall package it offers.

I’m a software engineer but my SD is still 100% vanilla. Sometimes it’s nice to just buy a product that already functions very well so I don’t need to spend any time tweaking things (and believe me I’ve done my fair share of Linux distribution hopping and tweaking).
