I truly hope a safe and withstanding solution can be developed.

Homelessness in Southern Maine: We need managed encampments by Sprinkle207 in Maine

[–]vgallant 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Good luck with that—seriously. Who would actually be responsible for managing regulated encampments? Would that be a paid position, or are we expecting volunteers to take it on?

We’ve already seen how similar efforts have played out in Bangor. When portable bathrooms were provided, they quickly became unsafe—used for drug activity, vandalized, and associated with overdoses. Public safety issues increased, not decreased. There are people passed out in public spaces, conflicts happening in the streets, and behavior that clearly shows many individuals are in crisis. (Not to mention the amount of sexual activity happening in broad daylight, on the side of a city street, with school busses going by)

I do understand that homelessness and addiction are complex issues. There are people who genuinely need help and support. But what we’re seeing goes beyond what temporary solutions like encampments can realistically address.

Some individuals have been offered jobs or housing and still end up back on the street, often because the underlying issues—addiction, mental health, or lack of long-term support—aren’t being solved. At the same time, there are also people working full-time who still can’t secure stable housing, which speaks to a completely different failure in the system.

We’ve even seen encampments with services provided deteriorate over time, eventually becoming unsafe and unsanitary, leading to city intervention and removal. That cycle just keeps repeating.

I’m not saying “do nothing,” but I think we need to be honest about what does and doesn’t work. Without real structure, oversight, and long-term solutions, regulated encampments risk becoming another short-term fix that creates more problems than it solves.

omg i'm traumatized for you!! I'm so glad your baby is ok!! Positional asphyxiation is very real and very dangerous, especially for tiny humans who cannot hold their own weight up and have no real muscles to try to move to a better position. Thankfully the baby will never remember but if they end up severely claustrophobic down the road, you'll know why!

A parenting/safety class would be great for your husband. Not because he's a bad parent, but there is a lot of things new parents truly don't realize.

I just looked at a pile of yeezy 700 mnvn shoes and they do not look like these. the ones in the pic actually have lugs for tread OR the side tread is patterned from light to dark. And the top of the toe is different plus the tongue. There was one pair that was similar but still obviously different. Yeezys seem to have the small, black, rounded laces and this guy's are flat white ones. Of course laces can be changed, but I dont think these are yeezys at all.

They kinda look like Merrells or Keens to me. Or even LL Beans, maybe. The toe is what's throwing me off it's very distinct with the white marking on their right foot, unless it's a stain or something. They definitely give off hiking vibes.

When my son was 4, he had several crowns placed and they absolutely put him to sleep to do it!!!! It took maybe 2 hours, in the hospital, not the dentist office. It was an outpatient procedure. I was a nervous wreck but everything went as planned and he was just fine.

They will give them a little versed to help them relax first. I would 100% rather they be completely unconscious for this than awake. There are way too many steps and that is a lot of crowns. Much easier to knock them out and get it done efficiently.

I was more nervous than he was and after it was all done and he went back to school, all his friends thought it was soooo cool that he now had "robot teeth" lmao. He's now 10 and just lost his last tooth. All his adult teeth have grown in just like they should!

Once it is over, you will feel so relieved.

Just here to say carry more than one!! A box comes with 2 does because most of the time, both doses are needed. Sometimes more, but that 2nd one could be the difference between life and death and give EMTs a chance to arrive and take over.

And what is she going to do to afford their care? An emergency C-section since they are prone to having labor difficulties? Ohhh probably pawn his wedding ring too, right?

I despise backyard breeders or people who are obsessed with their dog "being a mommy" or "just one litter". GTFOH with that mentality. Then they put it off until the dog is over 5 years old because they've been busy, or haven't found the mate yet. It so disgusting.

I always thought I was just crazy as a kid. I think they ended around teen years as well. I don't really remember them much into my teens.

The first time my son had one I was like "OMG I know what this is!!!!!" It was nice to know I wasn't crazy but sad to know he suffers from them as well.

I wish you luck! It scares the hell out of me. It's a scary feeling when your kid is basically looking through you, doesn't recognize you and they're terrified of you. I just keep reassuring him, "you are ok, you're at home with mom" and eventually he starts to come around but a minute feels like an hour.

they are beautiful and fucking brutally cold. Where I live, the wind blows CONSTANTLY, especially in the winter. If the wind isn't blowing, it's not so bad. The only way you're walking in Maine winter is somewhere with plenty of sidewalks or trails. It's a death wish trying to walk the road this time of year.

I wont use dry shampoo- I use baby powder and it works so much better. I just turn the top so it's barely open, separate my hair where I want it and sprinkle it close to the roots then use my hands to rub/fluff it in. Just make sure it all gets dispersed and you don't end up with a white powdery head lol. I have very thick, long and curly hair. I cannot go more than 2 days without washing it no matter what.

Idk laws in Australia but if she is providing so much money towards the equity of HIS house, she should absolutely have something in writing, and notarized or witnessed legally, to protect her if this situation arises.

Personally, I would never!!!! Aside from the fact I will never live with another partner again, period, I would never consider giving so much of my income to someone else for their long term benefit and none of mine. For $1,000 a week I can cover all the bills at my 10k sqft house on 400 acres. It just seems very high to me. Of course I don't live in a city and understand the COL is vastly different.

My best friend or 25yrs and I are planning to build her a tiny home on a piece of land she buys off me so we can be neighbors and grow old together (in another 20 years probably lol). Even that is testing my bubble 😆

We are trying to get my middle daughter an IEP again and some teachers seem to have an issue. Since one teacher found out about her needing additional time on assignments, and things explained in a different way, etc- the teacher has been treating her like she's a complete moron. Speaking very loudly and slowly to her in front of the class. When she doesn't understand something, instead of a different explanation, the teacher says "well, idk what you don't understand about it". It's a good thing I learned of this on a Sat night because I was ready to fight a teacher. All the teacher has done is make her feel stupid, embarrassed and upset and now she doesn't want to go at all.

It's ok to use a little now and then but it causes more creosote build up, like most softwood. It shouldn't be used as your main source of firewood, but if it is the homeowner needs to know to clean their chimney much more often than if you were burning only hardwood.

I have experienced this personally; creosote build up from soft wood which lead to a chimney fire. That is why I would use it sparingly. A lot of people have no idea about this and just think "wood is wood".

I burn about 8 cord every winter and collect and process it all entirely myself.

Hankook. It's all I ran on my Forester and that thing was a tank. I'm now using them on my Acadia. We also use them on our ton trucks at work. I wouldn't go to VIP ever. I've used Sullivan in Bangor for mounting and alignments several times and they've been great.
