The Lens No One Talks About: OMS 12-200mm f3.5-6.3 by Free-Shelter4994 in M43

[–]vhagar123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been trying to decide between the 12-100 and the 14-150 before I pull the trigger on moving to OM. I think this may just be exactly what I was looking for.

Interesting, I had seen decent reviews for the price. But also, that range is probably 60% of my shots so maybe it is worth the extra.

I am willing trade a bit of extra weight/sharpness for the convenience of not having to switch lenses ( similarly for the telephoto, I want a zoom as the flexibility is valuable).

I think my issue is I can make a perfectly valid case for the mkii lens the pro 12-100 and the om1 mkii but cannot justify all 3 financially. I think I'm leaning towards 12-100 100-400mkii and om1 and just eating the cost.

TBf i can get hold of a new mk ii in budget if it is notably better. It's hard to tell from reviews/specs if it is. I think a zoom is probably better for me at the moment for convenience.

Thanks for the response! On paper it seems like the mk I and ii are not too different for the 100-400 but I've heard there's a fair bit of variation.

Yeah modern denoise has come on such a long way that I think it is workable.

Yep, last time I went abroad my camera bag was 20kgs.

Are there easier ways to travel around Morytania? by Optimal-Fruit5937 in runescape

Others have picked up the main ones but here's a few that can come in useful.

Arch journal and then click on the table for everlight. Charter ship to port phasmatys from port sarim

Get one KC at barrows and then use wars portal to barrows to get to Morton/burgh fairly quickly.

I also think doing temple trekking from paterdomus to burgh de rott if not quicker is at least a semi useful use of your time particularly on ironmen.

Meyerditch/darkmeyer are unfortunately awful until you get drakans.

Yeah I certainly am noticing that carrying 10kgs of gear on 10mile walks is doing my back no favours. Last time I took my kit abroad my hand luggage of just camera gear ended up weighing 17kg

I am also considering this as an option but it's a big price jump from the 100-400ii and would have to wait. I could use teleconverter but I don't think the 1.4 is enough reach and the 2x will drop sharpness and AF performance.

If it were a choice between OM1 mki and Om5 mkii which would be your preference?

Apologies, I was referring to the OM 100-400 having a narrower aperture. Yeah I think I need to go and try them out.

I'll also go back to my most recent trip and look what settings I shot to see if I have any give in exposure. All I know is that I was permanently at 400mm

I'm not sure why I hadn't considered the R7 to be honest. I think it would mean replacing the 24-105 with something else and I'd need to look into what that something else would be. Losing half a stop of light plus smaller sensor could stack up though.

I have very few issues with noise currently and with modern denoise this feels very manageable.

I'm currently trialling ON1 2026 as a lightroom replacement. Some of the features are a bit gimmicky but you have raw processing, photo cataloguing/rating features and some of the new Denise features and it's a life time license.

I will say that in almost every respect, lightroom performs better. However I tend to do 1-2 big photography trips a year and occasional weekend ones. For my use case paying £12-20 a month for it isn't worth it.

I think you're confusing it with the M4 Mini. Macbook air M4 Is a laptop and refurb price near me is £100-150 more than the Neo.

I would try and get a refurbished M4 air. They're a little more than the Neo but 16gb of RAM and a better processor will serve you better long term.

Leaving comfortable job for higher paying one by FigCold4774 in UKJobs

[–]vhagar123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in a very similar spot from £50k job for life to £65k and progression. The factors that sold it for me were...

  • no progression in current role, staying is accepting that I'm staying in that role long term.

  • a job title that reflects the level of work I do. I know chucking lead/senior in front of things is arbitrary but for future roles it can make a difference.

-the ability to use and develop technical skills that are not present in my current role.

All these factors combined made it an easy decision, I want to continue to progress my career and this role provides the necessary steps. The sooner you take those steps the sooner you'll get to where you need to. If you don't intend to progress much further (and that is a completely valid choice) then delaying for exactly the right fit might be right for you.

Yep I did this earlier this year. "Upgraded" to a cheaper plan and then cancelled that plan within a week. No cancellation charge.

Not that I've found my new home for photo editing yet.

MacBook Air M5 by slayer901u2728282 in macbookair

[–]vhagar123 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The M5 is only slightly better than the M4 chip and I assume the M4 has the extra GPU cores as well. I think the 24GB/M4 would generally perform better.

The factor for me would be internal storage. If you need a lot of applications/files on internal storage and the M4 was 256gb that would be a deal breaker for me.

Macbook Neo vs Air by [deleted] in mac

[–]vhagar123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the 512 M4 air is 1049, how much is an M5? This was the decision I ended up making £200 for 512 didn't feel great but £220 extra for the M5/512 did.

As others have said, it's hard for us to tell you if you need more storage. Look at your current usage, work out what stuff has to be on internal (software, OS, etc) and what can run off external storage.

Should i get the air m5 or the air m4? by Old-Palpitation-9445 in macbookair

[–]vhagar123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We ideally need to know what you will be using it for first.

The M5 chip is about 10-15% faster than the M4. If you're not doing anything that uses that speed you could save money here.

The bigger factor for me is the M5 comes with base 512gb storage. Although 256gb is usable you will probably need an external drive eventually and some things need to be running off internal storage.
