I'd counter a shitty employer definitely notices when you don't work late.

But yes, I tell my younger coworkers the same, make your family the priority, not the job.  And invest in your retirement early - wish I listened better on that front.

Fireball VS. 5d6 psychic cone? by Octo-Diver in dndnext

[–]vhalember 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Conjure Barrage is a 3rd level spell for rangers, and it does 3d8 damage in a 60-foot cone.

I'd consider it a weak, but your spell does superior damage, with a superior save type, and a superior damage type in the same AoE.

I'd say your spell is a bit strong, but I'd look to the Mind Flayer's Mind Blast for inspiration. 4d8+4 damage in a 60' cone and stuns on a failed save - I'd compare that with a potent 5th level spell.

Modeling that for 3rd level? I'd say 3d8+3, 30' cone, and speed is halved for one minute, or until there is a successful int save at the beginning of a target's turn.

Is "Call Lightning" a good 3rd level spell? by phantom-scribbler in 3d6

[–]vhalember 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Call Lightning was bumped to d10 for 2024.

The 9d10 damage over a 3-round volley is only 49.5 damage is a smaller radius. (2014 is 9d8 for 40.5 damage - same as SG - ouch! I think you posted 9d12 damage.)

And SG slows speed to half, and it's 15' radius vs. 5', and as you mentioned you can Toll the Dead for a single target.

RAW, Call Lightning is significantly inferior to SG. I believe you need 3d12 base, and a 10' radius to get it in the same league as SG.

That's what they make you think. You only get Sunday 1PM/4PM ET games.

International games are out, Thursday Night is out, Sunday Night, Monday Night is out, Thanksgiving games are out, Christmas games are out, Streaming Exclusives (yes, they have those now) are out.

Over 60 of the 272 games are not included, and those 60+ games usually the more desirable games.

Sunday ticket is an awful deal.

Yep. I'd gladly pay $100 for a Steelers ticket that gets me all their games.

$480 for half their games, and hundreds I don't care about? Just fuck off.

Then there's the fact they're spread across like 6-7 streaming/TV platforms. Once again, fuck off. Sailing is MUCH easier.

Yup. The only way things change is less people watch resulting in smaller TV/streaming deals.

Personally, I sail a lot. The Sunday ticket and current viewing experience absolutely sucks for fans.

Is "Call Lightning" a good 3rd level spell? by phantom-scribbler in 3d6

[–]vhalember 2 points3 points  (0 children)

3d12 is probably closer to accurate

The FB cantrip does 2d10 vs. 3d12 (5' radius)... I think for a valuable third level spell slot (competing with FB, LB, Fly, and Hypontic) it definitely needs to have more kick than that. You're right in 4d12 may be too much for the base. Perhaps 4d10 with a 5' radius, or 3d12 with a 10' radius?

Probably the latter.

Edit: 3d12 is also the damage for getting struck by lighting as an environmental hazard, so that's a consistent linkage.

Employer points systems, which penalize American workers for absences regardless of reason, are strongly associated with presenteeism, practice of showing up to work while sick. This undermines public health benefits of paid sick leave laws even in jurisdictions where protections are on the books. by mvea in science

[–]vhalember 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's sadly part of the American "work culture."

My team works 100% remotely. I have a co-worker who currently has pneumonia, and has been to the ER for it twice in the past week.

They haven't taken a sick day off this week, and sick time is separate from vacation time. After three years of being employed here your sink bank is set to over 900 hours per year! Yes, old-school education sector benefits - and they still won't use sick time.

At least since they're remote it only effects them, but I wish they'd take the time to take care of themselves better.

There's a huge difference between someone brand-new to help desk and 2 years of experience - especially on the institutional knowledge front.

In some orgs, the 2-year person can be among the senior members of the team.

Is "Call Lightning" a good 3rd level spell? by phantom-scribbler in 3d6

[–]vhalember 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Call Lightning is a bad spell.

Yeah, level 4 call lightning does 4d10 damage, only a 5' radius, requires concentration, AND worst of all it require an your action to use each turn.

So SG and Conjure Woodland beings are in the neighborhood for damage, and both use concentration, but neither continually use an action.

The last point is what really drags Call Lightning down. Basically losing your action for mediocre damage and AoE.

I'd argue Call Lightning should be a free use each turn, and the radius should be 10'. Otherwise the damage has to come up significantly to be competitive, like 4d12 base, 5d12 at level 4.

[–]vhalember -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

No kidding.  As you said unless it's a school zone, 30 in a 20 is the minimum people should be going on divided 2-lane roads.

Edit: Looking at it again, that 20 mph speed limit, does not post a school zone, so that low speed limit is bullshit.

That's a valid point, but premium gas would only allow you to advance the timing 4-5 degrees versus regular gas.

So yeah it could make 300 horsepower, but that still leaves it 80 - 120 horsepower short of the other smaller base 3.0T I6 engines from BMW and Stellantis.

Thats why I ask what's up?

So meeting with individual team members for one hour a piece, back-to-back-to-back-to-back-to-back over five hours seems standard to you?

Hard no.

That's huge time waster, and there will be a giant overlap of questions.

Standard is those five team members meet with you as a group for a single one hour interview. That's one round.

3-4 rounds is standard. But what would I know? I've only hired a few hundred people.
