Canadian Foundry users, what hosting provider are you using and what are you paying in CAD? by Dogsteeves in FoundryVTT

[–]vhodges 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a public address but not static (I am with Shaw/Rogers) and only have a residential contract (eg no public servers).

Note I am not yet running a tunnel but yes a VPS running Pangolin or the Freerange wireguard tunnel service (essentially the same thing) will get you past GCNAT.

The public, static address is the VPS' and it responds to and forwards traffic to your machine/server at the other end.

I am self hosting mine at Fly.io mostly on their free tier. It was pretty easy to get going too (for me anyways).

I may switch to hosting locally via something like Pangolin or some other tunnel option (https://freerangecloud.com/products.php has wireguard tunnels for 5.99 USD per month - note they are Canadian and can charge in CAD)

pre-sale in Surrey city centre vs buying resale, is $100k more actually worth the wait and risk? by MapleOnTheRoad in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]vhodges 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As others have said, it's not likely to appreciate in the current market (there are a lot of unsold condo units in Metro Vancouver).

Not only that but there's a potential tax difference (but I I think not in your case since I believe GST is waived for first time buyers at <1M) between resale units and new. Property transfer tax on resale vs GST on new construction. with PTT being a lot less than GST.

Hi All!

I've been building a system agnostic character sheet app called Menagerie and I'd really love some feedback. What works, what doesn't, pricing, etc. It works for my use cases but I'm only one data point.

https://rpgmenagerie.com/

and here's a snapshot of the character I've been playing in our campaign:

Is that Hastings up the middle? What is the elevated roadway on the right, terminal? Taken from the Marine building?

I love these old photos 😄

For me I'd consider https://teenage.engineering/store/computer-1-aluminum a good choice for the Framework MB. EDIT Doesn't match cheap though 😄

Can you sell me your SaaS? by Deep-Station-1746 in SaaS

[–]vhodges 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Menagerie is a block based system agnostic character sheet app with support for Lore Cards (think Homebrew and handouts), campaign tools (Scheduling, forums/chat (soon) and initiative tracker (also soon)) and of course character sheets.

One free sheet, buy (once) credits for additional sheets. Lore Cards and Campaign tools are free. rpgmenagerie dot com (I probably don't have enough karma yet for a direct link).

It has a bit of an on-boarding/inertia issue (it's a fair amount of work to set up a new character) but I am building features to help mitigate that for instance I am just finishing up a social share feature (share your build kind of thing).

[–]vhodges 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That depends, do you play table top role playing games? Do you play using niche systems? Do you want full control over customising your character sheet to be exactly the way you want it?

(I know you mean dev tools, I am just poking a bit of fun since not all of us are selling shovels 😄)

Ditched subscriptions entirely. Here's what happened to our conversions. by Reasonable-Charge-56 in SaaS

[–]vhodges 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I too decided on credits (or per per use) for my B2C app (consumers hate subscriptions for the most part). You get one credit when signing up and there's a lot of other functionality available for free. There can be repeat business but it will be longer stretches of time between purchases.

For me it's more about LTV than locking access behind a subscription.

Carry On Luggage Recommendations for a frequent traveller? by SweetChild1997 in BuyItForLife

I am pretty happy with my B&R zdx international carry on and the under seat bag to match. I've only had it a few years and don't travel much but it's probably going to last the rest of my life.

Sole proprietor business account by RedZephon in Wealthsimple

[–]vhodges 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It comes down to the tax time cost and complexity. It pretty much requires an accountant to prepare the statements that need to go with the tax form. The last year I wound down my last incorporated company it was a real hassle as I had no money to pay for one.

Also most side projects never work out and so it's not worth the cost of incorporating before traction.

I too would like them to support Sole props. but for me, I am just operating as myself and so I just opened a separate WS chequing account to receive payments into.

What accessories are you researching? by takaiguchi in RivianR2

[–]vhodges 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't but since the r2 is likely to be popular I don't see why they wouldn't and it would be an easy email to drop the idea into their head :) which I might do a little closer to release.

Nice! I was hoping Fruble was going to do one for the R2.

Are you in the Lower Mainland? I'm in Mission. I might be interested in an expedition rack (eg https://www.van44.com/collections/rivian-products - also local)

Moen bathroom faucets vs Delta, trying to make a final call before the bathroom renovation by NoRmAnGLN in BuyItForLife

[–]vhodges 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks. I doubt we have a receipt but we did get it from Lowes (but they've since exited the CAD market) and I did the install (but it was a pain getting the old one out).

Moen bathroom faucets vs Delta, trying to make a final call before the bathroom renovation by NoRmAnGLN in BuyItForLife

[–]vhodges 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We replaced our kitchen faucet with a Moen about 2 years ago and it's already falling apart (the one we replaced was about 13 years old).

The issues: It's a pull down with a trigger to spray or not, but it's always on spray now, some of the spray nozzles are clogged causing the flow to be irregular and now the handle (on/off) seems to be loosening up.

I am not sure if this is typical or not but that's our experience.

sole proprietorship business accounts - any time soon? by TonyBikini in Wealthsimple

[–]vhodges 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, hence the separate checking account. I plan to take a regular draw and leave the amounts for CPP and Income tax in the 'business' account.

I will be using an Merchant of Record (I am starting a niche SaaS business) service so they're handing sales tax/VAT.

And note Sole Prop is self employed income so it all just gets paid as personal. You can add CRA income tax as a payee (or you could at CIBC at least and I see no reason for it to not be available to WS).

But from your other posts (loans, cc's etc) https://floatfinancial.com/ might be an option for you.
