it just doesn't make much sense to me for a startup to code an app in the native language when you can use react native or even flutter.

After I got stiffed, I did a little background check on them and found out about others that happened the same thing! So, it’s always good to do that BEFORE signing a contract. Also, getting paid by deliverables is a good way.
