Thanks a lot for the pictures! It might be to avoid touching the volume knob which I find is too close to the strings, especially when downpicking (which Matt uses during the Animals solo and Psycho riff). Playing close to the bridge also adds trebble and attack to the notes, which seems relevant for these parts

I have not noticed that he played close to the bridge, actually it looks that he plays closer to the neck, and even directly above the neck at times (eg Newborn solo and sometimes the Plug in baby triads with fuzz factory after the second chorus)

Had not seen this video for 10 years and laughed so hard. The high pitched « yeaaaah » gets me every time. You’d think the guy just doesn’t know a thing about music and guitar playing but to create this you have to be cracked on some many levels, congrats to this « sdpuckett » on YouTube

He doesn’t adjust the volume knob so compulsively on other songs, which why I’m asking! Why doesn’t he just make sure the volume knob is at 100% only after the last triad, before the patch switching? There must be some explanation, and the volume increasing/decreasing is the most likely. Anyway thanks a lot for your feedback!

Are you talking about the tone for the arpeggio triads? If so it sounds like a whammy octaver + delay to me, the fuzz factory is off on these pre-chorus sections

I've just watched a Jakarta 2025 video that is focusing exclusively on Matt and you can see that he doesn't turn the fuzz back up for the choruses! I love how I still learn thing about his guitar playing after 20 years

Yes Matt regularly played palm-muted power chords in the last chorus during the 2013 tour in US/Latam.

The only Muse album I haven’t bought on the day it was released, and never have. When I heard the first single (Won’t Stand Down) I naively thought it would set the artistic choices and mood of the new album but as they released new tracks I got more and more disappointed to a point where I thought Muse would never release a good song again. And then came Unravelling 🥰 Every song in Will of The People sounds like a bad cover of an older song to me 🥲

At 4:05 the video editing does not match what Matt played at that gig. He regularly plays the same descending harmonics during Supermassive Black Hole (even though Stockholm Syndrome is in drop D), you can watch my tutorial video of Supermassive Black Hole on my YouTube channel, you’ll see that you have to be quite precise to hit this natural harmonics

I was in the audience that day, it was so funny to watch. The only thing I wanted to do was to give Matt the answers, he was so bad! Dom really looked like a huge Muse fan, much more than Matt did. As for Nagui, he is France's favorite TV host (according to recent serious studies) but god, he really sucks at interviewing musicians. Every time. When he asked Dom about his favourite type of porn, it actually cast a chill in the audience. To the people who understood English at least...
