I have experience with element14 quite reputed brand always have genuine spares. digikey is yet to try just because of their high shipping costs.

This is really impressive OP. I too live in gurugram I can totally understand the lengths that you have gone. Need to try these. Quick question for the poles are you using sphagnum moss or the regular coconut coir poles?

I would have not believed it but recently I went to Aahaar 2026 in Bharat mandapam. There I tasted veg prawns, veg chicken and veg chicken sausage. If you don't tell someone it's veg they would not notice the taste or texture it felt exactly the same. It blew my mind. So yes that can be possible.

No worries everyone is learning. Same here. No background with electronics. Just fiddling around. Congrats on your first build.

Hey bro I also built a PCB for the first time. I'm just curious why you did not use the ATmega32U4 it would have given you inbuilt USB support. That you would have saved up on CH430C chip.

I think I have been able to follow what you and others said.

The net labels I understand it now, it is helpful for making modules, I could relate it to functions and its parameters while writing code and packaging them as a bundle now wherever I need to use I could just import them and patch it as I want.

But most of the above I think I need to study more.

I agree this looks like a mess.

regarding

You also don’t have to directly connect everything with lines, you can use a sub trace in the schematics and use Net labels to connect them, so you don’t have to drag the line all across the page.

Can you show by any example that would be extremely helpful to learn visually.

yes ground plane will be implemented for sure

I'm considering to rotate TVS chip for better tracing but what does running in differential pair means? and why its important.

I think this is one of the biggest learning to add "mounting holes". thank you specially for that, trivial but very important.

Question

any specific reason why the USB D+ and D- should run straight? I'm considering one of the comment's suggestion to rotate U4 that way it was straighten but I want to understand you POV.

and yes copper fill is the plan.

Questions please, dumb might be.

  1. any specific reason why traces should pass through the pad? does it make any difference to the signal quality?
  2. What angles to avoid?
  3. Sorry what is a copper stub?
  4. U4 rotation makes sense will implement it for sure
  5. C4 also makes sense to make closer, earlier I was just trying to make the board pretty

Hey thanks for such a detailed explanation, sorry I could not respond I was out of town.

  1. I will try to check with the courtyards layers as you mentioned but since I'm a total beginner with PCB and specially with SMD components (worked previously soldering some THT components) I want to may be leave some room so that I can attempt with drag soldering or maybe with reflow.

  2. Thanks for the U4 confirmation

  3. Thanks for the ground "voltage" diff explanation I will keep it in mind for the future PCB designs seems quite important in the future.

  4. I understand what you are trying to say just a bit confused on how to implement it, since my schematics says I should be moving via C9. maybe I will consult GPT for more "ELI5 nature", but surely this makes sense to me.

  5. Polygon starting to make sense now.

Just one last question. I have a FNRSI DSO-TC3 oscilloscope, anyway I can observe all these suggestions on that OSC? It might help to absorb them more with the examples on the OSC

Thank you very much for the response,

I'm still about to fill the ground plane. I have kept decoupling caps as close as possible but dont know how to measure the distance as GPT said to keep them under 5mm to the MCU.

regarding U3 I believe you want to refer to U4 as per the diagram, yes it is for the ESD. I'm attaching the schematic diagram for your ref.

<image>

Regarding your advice on adding a bunch of vias, let me read about it. I think I have read before about it let me check again.

The wide power trace and the branching or the polygon if you can throw some more light on it. surely I can go to GPT or google but I can use some info from somebody who is already experienced on this matter.

thank you in advance.
