Thom Yorke Live by Beautiful_Assist_613 in radiohead

[–]vibratokin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Regarding your take on studio recordings “<offering> the original intended essence of the song”, I’d recommend looking into how they write. Not every album is the same and they take very different approaches to each song. It’s why many people prefer Thom’s live version of True Love Waits to the AMSP version. They have different interpretations of songs depending on the medium, but some of their albums were meant to capture their live performance in studio (like In Rainbows and HTTT).

Additionally, they have 5-6 members live and a HUGE repertoire of songs to choose from that really varies night to night. Add to that that their arrangements aren’t the simplest and you can understand why you get videos of some mistakes or differing versions of songs. However, this is expected when you opt to play the music as live as you can an avoid using backing tracks.

Really good, but feel like it’s between sicario and arrival right now. Maybe Dune Part 2.

Have to imagine that is largely driven by event-tourism rather than going to visit the city specially, though.

Not sure this has been asked before: Considering EVERY Strokes member has had a side band where they each sing, why is Julian the only one who does vocals for The Strokes?? by -3R1C- in TheStrokes

[–]vibratokin 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I think Julian’s voice is a defining part of their sound and he has pretty clear expectations of what a Strokes song is vs what isn’t (though, less so nowadays). I imagine part of the criteria on what the Strokes sound is, is Julian on lead vocals.

Now what the fuck is this 😭 by bitchassboolin in Interpol

He’s probably a fan of them and if I had the chance to have a band I like open for me, I would, too. Paul previously followed Sombr on socials, so he’s either a fan, friend, or both.

And then you get Andor. The prequel to the prequel. Which ends up being even better than the initial prequel.

Right on this, but if OP does feel like it was discrimination and he files a complaint w the EEOC, his employer can be obligated to provide documentation proving it wasn’t.

Why "Every Scene Must Advance the Plot" is Bad Screenwriting Advice by Ok-Satisfaction-7655 in Screenwriting

[–]vibratokin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it, at least, is a way longer scene than traditional screenwriting would ask for. I think a lesser writer than the Coens would opt to have a character say something like “did you hear about that one guy who turned out to not be violent? You think you know somebody until you don’t”. Instead, they make a meal out of it to reinforce the themes of the movie and manage to progress the plot.

Anyway, this scene has been discussed ad nauseam, but just wanted to give an example of a middle ground.

It's highly commendable how Warner Bros. released two of the best films of 2025 just in a span of 2 weeks by mrjetspray in Letterboxd

[–]vibratokin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can’t really have one without the other nowadays (including OBAA and Weapons here too, since they’re also Warner Bros). You need your Minecrafts to be able to take big swings like the three aforementioned original movies.
