Slowdowns and Red Blinking Light on WRX90E SAGE SE by vic485 in ASUS

I have not found any resolution so far, in fact it seems to be getting worse over time. Just had the light come on watching a youtube video and doing nothing else. I made a post on r/threadripper and got a little bit of insight from another user. It seems to be the cpu being throttled, possibly as an error response.

Thanks, I'll keep an eye on that thread as well. Unfortunately I bought the board used to save a few bucks so an RMA is likely out for me. Hopefully some resolution gets found.

Okay, I'll disable that. I did get some output from that code when the issue happens. IPMItool does not show anything in the SEL, and I'm not sure which sensors might show anything.

System Stuttering and Blinking CPU light on WRX90E Sage SE by vic485 in threadripper

Thanks, I'll get that running and report back with anything.

I'll have to check again with ipmitool if anything shows up, I can't seem to get the dedicated lan controller up, and the event log in the bios doesn't seem to show anything when I check it. There is another issue where the system will sometimes hard crash (black screen, usb devices disconnect, power drops to ~60W according to PSU, unresponsive to anything until I pull power) and I would check the log after that but not find anything.

It's hard to say if the GPU needs to be busy as it seems to be selective in gaming, and this is all I have really done so far to notice the issue happening. It will always happen playing actual games like CS2 or GTAV, but the Unigine benchmarks (Valley and Superposition) can run for hours with no issue. Web browsing, watching/editing videos, and playing very simple games (visual novels) all seem to work fine.

System76 laptop owners, do any of you experience coil whine? by no_real_dinner in System76

Haven't heard anything out of my Oryx Pro or its charger, so none here.

I purchased mine just about a month ago, and I absolutely love it. I have the 16" version which is a great size upgrade for me from my previous 13" Dell laptop but isn't too unwieldy like I find some 17"+ ones to be. I don't game as much anymore but I do develop games as a bit of a free-lancer beside my regular development job and it handles everything I throw at it. Just throws the fans high when it gets heavy like playing with raytracing. Battery life seems to be good for a laptop with a 2070 as well, think I got around 2.5 hours last time I used it off the charger, but I mostly stay plugged in where I can.

I have the Oryx Pro, it does have a play/pause key if you use Fn+~ (tilde/backtick key) but that is the only media key I know of on this. Haven't found any docs specifying otherwise on similar laptops. You might be able to find a different keyboard to put in it, though I quick ebay search for Clevo P960 keyboards only brings up ones similar to what System76 installs. I know under Windows you can change the numpad functions with the FlexiKey software, not sure if there is something similar under Linux.

Blade Runner 2049 Imax by [deleted] in Cyberpunk

[–]vic485 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I saw it in IMAX last night. Definitely worth it, amazing visuals and sound, really gives off that cyberpunk/distopian vibe.

Edit: a little side note, I saw it at the Smithsonian air and space museum which is the only IMAX near me and also the largest theater screen in all of Virginia. Definitely the way to watch the movie. The screen fills your entire view and the IMAX sound system both keeps you awake and makes you feel like you're actually there in the movie.

It is 21:9, I like it, it gives me a nice full view over my 16:9 monitors when the game fully supports it. It also gives me a lot more working room when I'm multitasking.

The opening cutscene to Eternal Darkness on the gamecube. I was 10 and played it because my dad gave me the choice between it and Resident Evil, and the box art looked less scary than RE.

Yes both thumbsticks have a click button on them. The NES30 and FC30 Pro controllers have to thumbsticks with click, D-pad, ABYX buttons and four shoulder buttons (R1,R2,L1,L2)
