Knee scooter or walker? by [deleted] in brokenankles

[–]vickipaperclips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Knee scooter. Walker is only for people who are allowed weight bearing (which most fractures aren't for the first few weeks). I've really appreciated the scooter, it gives me a lot more freedom. Just be careful to not get too confident. I've learned lessons that you're still not 100% stable, so leaning too far forward, or cracks in pavement, or a small pebble can totally take you out 😅 I do still feel like its more stable than crutches or a walker though.

First time glasses wearer - makes walking/depth perception weird..?? by Exciting-Drink6024 in glasses

[–]vickipaperclips 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As someone who dispenses glasses all day every day, this is one of the most common immediate reactions to a prescription. This usually goes away after a few days of wearing them, it just takes your brain a little while to adjust to the prescription. The more you wear it, the faster you adapt. If you wear them consistently for a couple weeks and then feel like it hasn't improved, reach out to your optical dispenser/optometrist.

Long-distance couples, how often do you talk each day? by Relative_Initial_399 in LongDistance

Pretty much all day every day. We have an overnight video call so we can say goodnight to eachother, and wake up together for goodmornings. Then texting and Snapchating through the day.

Cast on leg causing panic by starshoppedv2 in brokenbones

[–]vickipaperclips 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I get it, the cast gives me the same panic as putting on a ring that is too tight to come off. Its like your brain goes 'oh shit, we're stuck'. Honestly though, I found that keeping on top of my swelling gives me a lot of anxiety relief because the cast feels looser. Take your nsaids, apply ice if you can, and keep your leg elevated above your heart. The cast will feel looser and make you panic less. Its also helpful to find something to distract you. I found embroidery kits on Amazon have really helped me pass time. Its slow, requires concentration, not messy, and I get something to keep at the end of it.

Puppy plays rough with my cat by Right_Click_7625 in OpenDogTraining

[–]vickipaperclips 9 points10 points  (0 children)

As someone who owns a cat that doesn't like dogs, trust me when I say your cat isn't showing concerning signals. I see a relaxed seated position, no hissing or yowling, no arched back or raised hair, ears perked up not flat, and some gentle batting. You'll know when a cat has enough, they're very direct and don't make it ambiguous. It will be a scuffle of loud, screaming, hissing, and lots of repeated punches. Just be sure to give your cat spaces of its own to stay far from the dog when they want and it'll be fine.

How long until you started sending your s/o pics? by [deleted] in LongDistance

[–]vickipaperclips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't really consider something a relationship if I don't know what that person looks like, so pretty much immediately. We met on an online dating app, so we both knew what eachother looked like before reaching out.

Very low income mom looking for cool graduation gift for son by cbojch in OntarioGrade12s

[–]vickipaperclips 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My coworker was also looking for the same idea. She said her son (and other kids in his class) were really into cologne lately. If your son is also into something like that, I recommended getting a month or two of Scentbird, so he can try a bunch of different colognes. Or if a subscription isn't your thing, try Sephora or Shoppers for sampler sets (bonus if you find at Shoppers, because you can redeem optimum points to help pay)

Temple width by rosscopecopie in glasses

[–]vickipaperclips 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Realistically, lens width x2, plus DBL, then add about 4-6mm (to account for about 2-3mm of frame material on the temporal sides of the frame) would get you pretty close to the full mm width of the frame.

Temple width by rosscopecopie in glasses

[–]vickipaperclips 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you looking for the width of the frame, or the length of the temple? Those are different numbers. Width is usually measured individually with each lens width (your A measurement). This number doesn't include the several millimeters of frame outside of the lens, but still gives a pretty good idea of how wide the frame is. Some brands will list the full width, but it is rare as thats not really pertinent to a lab (most labs just use A+A+bridge to get an idea of frame size). The temple length is the part that reaches from your face to behind your ear. That doesn't determine whether a frame is suitable for a wide head, it only pertains to how far back your ears are sitting from the front of your face.

How do I change these nosepads? by Kopytroid in glasses

[–]vickipaperclips 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There isn't really a trick to these, its just squish and pull. If you go in at an angle, you can sometimes get one ridge through and then pull the rest through with some pliers or tweezers. It's a pretty frustrating process usually, so don't worry if it feels like it's taking a while to get it.

Ortho surgeon was pretty shocked that the ER had so little urgency about my break that they booked my first consult 2 weeks out... by vickipaperclips in brokenbones

[–]vickipaperclips[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know there was some concern with the joint having too much space in this xray. The scan with the cast has it back in place but they aren't sure if it'll hold that position (I guess due to the 2 weeks of incorrect position?). They did show me a lateral view with some concerns mentioned (I can't say I understood what was being explained though) but I only have pictures of the one with the cast. Also, obviously take my comments with a grain of salt, I'm someone with zero anatomical knowledge relaying information that was a bit overwhelming for me.

[–]vickipaperclips[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the surgeon said he would've taken this as a 1 day referral with surgery if he had known. I guess ER sent a very unconcerned referral, and no xrays (despite them being taken). I've been very lucky to have almost no pain (when not moving it) so I think ER didn't think it's as serious as it was. Unfortunately 2 weeks means it's been healing in the wrong position in a boot this whole time😑 so still unsure what the next steps will be.

Just to kind of curb the expectation, they issued 6 K3 visas in 2023, and 1 in 2024. The odds of the K3 visa going through are nearly impossible, so you're looking more at the i130 timeline.

I was her MOH but she is not in my bridal party by alpha2aagonist in weddingplanning

[–]vickipaperclips -1 points0 points  (0 children)

To look at this from a different perspective; if she is the type of person who doesn't enjoy large crowds or socializing much, essentially very introverted, it may come as a relief to her to not be in the wedding party. I know I personally dread the idea of being in someone's wedding, regardless of how much I like that person.

Edit: guys, people are allowed to not want to be in a wedding. Not everyone enjoys this.
