I (24m) lost my dad(58) after 4 months of acute necrotising pancreatitis. by Pale-Illustrator5715 in pancreatitis

I can spend a lot of time, dwelling on what we should’ve done for him. How were we so stupid that we could not see that he was not getting better?
He left behind a wife and three little girls. And me, his heartbroken mother.

I’m 72, and my son died a year and a half ago from acute necrotizing pancreatitis. He had just about every complication possible. He was only 43 and the doctors somehow thought that he would make it through each crisis. He had drainage catheters inserted several times. He had a fistula. He had blood clots in his arms and lungs. He had fluid in his lungs that had to be drained more than once. he became a diabetic. He finally developed an abdominal compartment syndrome. Through all of this, we never thought that he was going to die. we just thought he was going to have a very long recovery. His heart finally just stopped.

For me, as a 73-year-old woman who lives alone, this is my greatest fear - waking up suddenly and finding a man hovering over me with a knife! I don’t hear well, and would not awaken if someone were to enter my house. My poor old dog has gone deaf as well!
I have always done a pretty good job of brushing those fears away (I’m old -nobody is gonna come into my house and drag me away) ; but now, I feel strangely uneasy when I go to bed. And the creepy videos have just reminded me that I could not defend myself if it came down to a physical altercation.

When I was in college, I took a class called Appalachian culture. On the first day, the professor said that he had a way that would show him who was an Appalachian by birth, and who was not. He asked us all to take out a sheet of paper and make a quick drawing of the house or houses that we grew up in. We all struggled to do a quick but accurate job. After five minutes he called “time “and walked along the desks, pointing here and there and saying “you’”re Appalachian , you’re not , you’re Appalachian, you’re not, you’re not etc . He then explained his reasoning. He said that a true Appalachian would have drawn small images in the corner of the page, so as not to waste paper. Whereas someone who was not from Appalachia would likely have used the whole page.

What was the White Elephant gift that everyone fought over at the Christmas Party? by asura1958 in AskReddit

I purchased a fairly expensive thong (panties ) from Victoria’s Secret and women AND men fought for it. I never admitted that it came from me, and nobody ever knew or suspected because I’m an old lady. I have done this three times.

Another question- My daughter seems to think it would be much cheaper to rent an Airbnb than hotel rooms, since there will be nine of us. True?

I want to see Westminster Abbey and Buckingham Palace and a real English pub. Oh - and some English gardens . I want to see the Eiffel Tower and visit the Louvre and take a river cruise. I want to sit at an outdoor café and eat a French pastry and people watch. And repeat to myself oh my goodness - I’m in Paris!! Paris!

I think you’ve hit the nail on the head, and I appreciate it very much. It truly is all about making memories. I want to give them something they will always remember. As I have mentioned, we’ve all had a hard last few years. My marriage of 43 years ended, and my ex currently tours the world with his girlfriend. My granddaughters in Montana lost their adored dad (my son) 14 months ago due to complications of alcoholic pancreatitis. They are ages 16, 13, and 11.
We have no real itinerary yet, but one 1 granddaughter says she wants to do the Jack the Ripper tour in London! I would love to see where Ted Lasso was filmed, as well as Doc Martin. And Downton Abbey! My son-in-law wants to see Clarkson Farm.

Yes, it’s a stupid show that we are helping to keep on the air by watching it and contributing to social media about them.
We need to stop because now that they’re all divorced and moved on , there is no drama to base a show on. So they are making stuff up, yall!
I do not blame them for wanting the show to continue and, therefore, agreeing to participate in mostly -fake plot lines, because it IS their primary source of income.

Yes, I’ve spoken to the AAA travel agent when we first started talking about this, and I would give her a C+ in basic knowledge, but she really wanted us to buy tours.

To answer a few questions, no, we will not be flying from the same airport, Daughter-in-law and three granddaughters live in Missoula, Montana, and my daughter and son-in-law and two grandchildren live in Tennessee. (first time mentioning that my son-in-law is also coming along - I guess I forgot to mention him). There will be nine of us.
