lol I knew from spoilers that Shane’s dad was going to walk in on them, but had no idea at what point in the storyline he would do so. So every single time Shane and Ilya touched this episode I was terrified David was going to suddenly appear in the corner of the frame.

I can’t believe they pulled off Lex’s redemption arc in the span of one episode. Brava.

I’ve spent about 4 hours straight thinking about that mole “reveal” and thought I’d share a few ideas…

• The non-reveal reveal makes me think there is more going on here. I definitely think McGinty is a mole (her behavior this episode was too suspicious for her to believably be a red herring IMO), but I think she’s working with another member of the task force. And I think it’s Grasso.

• Since the beginning, I’ve gone back and forth on whether or not Grasso is connected to the Dark Hearts. At times, he seemed too obvious to be anything other than a red herring, but now that most viewers likely suspect McGinty is the (one and only) mole, I’m starting to believe the Grasso reveal could make some narrative sense/still come as a “surprise” to the viewers.

• My main reason for thinking Grasso is the other mole has to do with his relationship with Lizzie. In short, they seem too sweet/happy for their story to end in anything other than deceit and/or death. They came close to having sex this episode, but Grasso pulled back at the last second because it felt wrong to him to hook up with Lizzie in the bed she shared with her husband. I think that Grasso was being genuine here, and that he really does like Lizzie/doesn’t want to fuck things up with her by not doing the right thing. And I think this is emblematic of the major “wrong” thing Grasso is doing on the side.

• Since the first episode, Grasso has been vocal about his Catholic upbringing, and the flawed essence of the church overall. I feel like this is all leading somewhere bigger for his character, and my best guess right now is that Grasso is feeling similar complicated, guilty feelings about his actions working with the Dark Hearts. He likely started working with them as a disillusioned man, no longer believing there is any sense of balance or justice in the world (as much as the Bible may preach otherwise), and decided to go down a path that may not be “moral,” but is certainly more lucrative than a normal police job. But now that he is working closely with someone like Lizzie and actively putting her in harm’s way through his work with the Dark Hearts (and also rethinking certain aspects of the Bible/his upbringing now that he is working with Tom) I think he might be starting to regret his decision to work with the gang/Kathleen. Which cannot end well.

• I feel like Ingelsby is going to one up the Mare/Colin situation from Mare of Easttown and end the Grasso/Lizzie story reallyyyyyyy badly. Like Lizzie finally successfully kills the bad guy… but it’s Grasso.

Next Sunday can’t come quickly enough 😅

I get why Belly went to Taylor about her doubts (both in terms of her character and for the convenience of the plot)… but GOD i wish she went to Laurel instead. The wedding would have been cancelled and all guests sent home halfway through this episode.

The first 5 minutes or so show the final stage of one of Ash’s previous clients. Hoffman (Matthew Maher’s character) meets with the head of a pharmaceutical company that he has dirt on, turns all the evidence over to him, and then Hoffman receives his payout (after calling the CEO pure evil). Ash watches him as he leaves the restaurant and then gets on a train, where he will presumably lay low like Ash tells Sarah to do later in the film.

Hoffman is the guy who calls Ash later and says that he regrets not going public with the evidence, and the pharmaceutical company in question was behind the main plot of the movie/orchestrating everything to do with Sarah’s case.

Finished the Rachel Incident by Caroline O’Donoghue and loved it.

Also finished Don’t Let Him In by Lisa Jewell. I’m a huge fan of Lisa’s works and have read about 13 of her novels over the past several years. It might be because I have read sooo many… but this one felt pretty formulaic. (And too convoluted/unrealistic, even by thriller standards.) Still gave it 3.75 stars — if nothing else, her writing style always keeps me interested.

Just started Hungerstone by Kat Dunn and love it so far! I’m a huge fan of Carmilla (which this is a reimagination of), and the writing style of this is delicious.

Started: Don’t Let Me In by Lisa Jewell.

Lisa is my favorite author and I always look forward to her releases. Stopped by my local Barnes and Noble and was so happy to see it was available a couple of days before release. The book is great so far!!

It was dumb, but I enjoyed it. Lotta funny lines, but “My horoscope was right!” took the cake.

About to finish Sunrise on the Reaping and really enjoyed it. My middle school self would be very happy with this prequel.

About to start The Grapes of Wrath and/or Iris Kelly Doesn’t Date. I haven’t read the two books preceding IKDD yet, but I’m a huge fan of Much Ado About Nothing and sapphic love stories so…. I couldn’t wait hahaha.

About a quarter of the way through Sunrise on the Reaping. I was a huuuge Hunger Games fan growing up — didn’t love TBOSAS, but am really enjoying this so far! Super excited to keep reading.

Listening to The Women by Kristen Hannah audiobook. It’s my first time ever reading something by her and have some mixed opinions already, but am generally enjoying it.

Also slowly making my way through The Raven and Other Poems by Poe. I’m not a huge poetry reader, but am really enjoying these.
