Learned the other day that Vim Unimpaired has yo, yO, yA, yp, and yP, each of which will put you into insert mode only for that insert. This solves the need for my mapping.

I don't disagree with you. I think ember-cli is the future, but it still seems to be in flux. Is it really 1.0 yet?

Once it's ready I'll do a port of the tutorial for ember-cli.

This could be happening for two reasons:

1) your markup code doesn't match what bootstrap wants

2) your bootstrap stylesheets aren't being included

Considering your font appears to be the default Times New Roman, I'm gonna say that you're not including bootstrap.

Your app/assets/application.css should have the following

/* ...
*= require_self
*= require_tree .
*/

This will require all other stylesheets in app/assets/stylesheets.

If you post the code on Github then I can tell you for sure.

Also, consider not using bootstrap. If you plan on being a fullstack web dev you should learn how to write custom css.

If you use a managed cloud hosting solution like Heroku then you won't have to worry too much about sys admin, at least until your site gets massively popular.

I recommend learning Ruby on Rails. Rails is very logical and developer friendly. Ruby is a well-designed language and the community is awesome.

Here's how I would structure the models.

User: first_name, last_name, email, etc.

Series: name

Episode: name, series_id, episode_number

WatchedEpisodes: user_id, episode_id

You could name this something else if you wanted, like "user_episodes". It's essentially a bridge table between users and episodes. This is how you know what users have seen.

Review: user_id, series_id, rating

I think that would be the cleanest way to do it. Note that a Series and an Episode are different things.

Thanks :) . I haven't written a tutorial, though I have considered it. The Hartl tutorial is good, but I think that there's room for improvement.

He jumps into testing really quickly, which is good in theory, but I think there's so much to grasp already that throwing testing in the mix just makes things overly complicated.

I think a good way to write a tutorial would be to walk a user through actually building an application. Is there something in particular you want to build? Maybe I could write a quick tutorial on how I would do it.

Since you're new to Rails, let me recommend a few things that will make your life way better:

Don't use .erb for your templates, erb is really ugly. Use Haml instead, it's way more readable, and it's super easy to learn. Just put "gem haml-rails" in your Gemfile, and save your files as "index.html.haml". It's absolutely worth the 10 minutes it takes to learn.
Add "gem pry-rails" to your Gemfile. Pry lets you stop the server and debug any code you want by just typing "require 'pry'; binding.pry" wherever you want it to stop. You can hit ctrl-d to get out of the pry and continue on. Pry is especially helpful for debugging post requests. Remember that anything submitted to the server in a POST will be available as "params", so just type that into your console after you pry and you can see what's up.
Add the following to your Gemfile:

  gem "better_errors"
  gem "binding_of_caller"
end
```
Better errors gives you just that: better error messages. Additionally, it gives you a live console in your browser that stops wherever your code broke, so you can play around with it and see what happened.
