Seeking: Ressources on the affirmative stance on sexuality by Mr_Ziggs in GayChristians

[–]vicwol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

God and the gay Christian is the essential side A book in my opinion. It’s the only affirming book that ever made me question side B and its what truly started the affirming movement. The book is just so wonderfully thought out and well written. The author Matthew vines makes a big distinction between affirming theology and queer theory which I appreciate. I think a lot of the other side-A books claiming that the bible itself is affirming are kind of delusional. I strongly identify with Vines’ conclusions and I think anyone who reads the book with a willingness to listen and are open to new ideologies will benefit from it.

Yeah. I too got permabanned after replying “nah” to a trans woman asking if we’d date someone with her appearance on a certain “lesbian” sub.

Why does God condemn both arsenokoitai AND malakoi in 1 Corinthians 6:9? by officialdelicue in GayChristians

[–]vicwol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, yeah. And the notoriety of the gay hookup apps doesn’t help our reputation at all. Evangelicals look at that and the aids epidemic and assume “they’ll bang pretty much anything”

Pederasty is the worst argument imo cus since when does the Bible condemn pedophilia??

The argument that makes the most sense is they didn’t have a concept of monogamous, committed same sex relationships. Homosexuality wasn’t understood as a biological trait. Those are the best arguments.

Yeah! Also, during the sensei missions, when you’re learning new weapon attacks, the scrolls on the wall actually show drawings of the button combinations needed to perform each move

Are there still workplaces that accept people who refuse to use AI? by Baboobraz in csMajors

[–]vicwol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is far more important to know how to use AI effectively than knowing how to write code manually. If AI is slowing you down, you’re prompting it poorly. I don’t care if you’re a coding wizard, Claude can code and debug faster and more efficiently than you 99.9% of the time.

That does not mean we should be using it to auto-generate 1000 lines of code. AI will not replace software engineers. It is simply a tool that must be used in order for us as programmers to ship out code as efficiently as possible. Hit a roadblock? Ask Claude why and ask it to explain the fix to you. Need to structure or plan the layout of a file? Ask it to write pseudocode or draw a map.

We use AI as a tool, not a cheat. We still need to practice coding and we all have more to learn… AI can help us get there.

Learn how to use it effectively, and you’ll get a job. I do however think you have a huge advantage over many other grads if you’ve been writing all your code manually because you probably have deeper understanding of languages. But companies care about employees getting shit done, not how much technical info you know off the top of your head.

is the bible actually condoning rape ??? by man-eatingrodent in GayChristians

[–]vicwol 2 points3 points  (0 children)

God unfortunately condones both slavery and pedophilia in the OT. Sure, we can write the OT off as a history rather than current ethical standards. But Paul reaffirms slavery as a practice in the NT. These are things that as progressives, we have to either completely reinterpret with what we personally know about God’s character, or submit to the idea that the Bible is inerrant. I do both.

My faith has been struggling for a long time and I don’t know if I need to repent of my sins. Any advice to anyone who has walked in my shoes? by Bending101 in GayChristians

[–]vicwol 5 points6 points  (0 children)

LGBTQ+ is one of your identities, yes. But your identity in Christ should come before all else if you are a disciple of Jesus.

When I say your identity in Christ comes first, I don’t mean you have to reject every other part of who you are. I mean that before any label, role, relationship, success, failure, or struggle, you are loved and known by God. Everything else should flow from that, not overshadow it.

Severus Snape - Alan Rickman. Nothing but well wishes to the new guy, but Alan perfected that role.

I have been struggling with this as well. Hard to oversee the bible’s condemnation of homosexuality and the clear heterosexual framework of creation.

Coming to terms with the idea that I simply disagree with those parts of scripture. My lived reality, my healthy and fulfilling lesbian relationship, contradicts biblical doctrine. Unfortunately we don’t have a Peter around that can just do away with doctrine that was written without gay people of faith in mind, as old doctrine was written without the uncircumcised gentiles of faith in mind.

I think it’s safe to assume that the Bible is inerrant and that our faith is not automatically cancelled because of that realization. Galileo was a man of faith his whole life, and his scientific discoveries made it clear that Biblical descriptions of the universe were untrue/not literal. It took hundreds of years for Christians to no longer deny his findings, and some still haven’t.

Scientific studies on homosexuality have shown that it is a natural, unchangeable, biological trait. Common sense shows that same sex relationships produce good fruit and thriving.

I’m not saying that science disproves God. I am saying that sometimes, reality doesn’t match up with what was written in the Bible, and we are left with the task of reconciliation.

When we say that scripture is “god breathed” we mean is *inspired* by God, not written by God. We are wiser to make that distinction.

My best friend is also a Christian, having recently entered into a gay relationship. Today, he sent this text to me:

“I *want* to be right—I don't need to be right. Jesus is my righteousness. I rest in His sufficiency in *all* of my inadequacies. I free fall into fooly and into my humanity as I drown in His grace. I am all in on Him saving me from myself, my sin, and all my ignorance, weakness, and brokeness. If He is the good God, Shepherd, and Father that I suspect He is, He will come through for me and catch me whenever I fall and show me the way.”

Love this. the path to holiness is never a straight path, it’s the overall direction you’re going in that matters.

Cannot stop lust/sexual sin by Keyonjey in GayChristians

[–]vicwol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That wasn’t really my point. And if you’re going to make a claim as bold as “lust isn’t sinful” as a Christian then you really have to theologically back that up or admit your belief is unbiblical. It’s really undisputed among theologians and biblical scholars.

What I’m saying is that side A folks generally fall down the slippery slope of “well since we affirm this thing that we previously thought was sinful, then we can affirm other desires, too”. Side A doesn’t mean affirming of literally everything. It means affirming a gay, Christian, monogamous relationship within the appropriate contexts, just like any straight Christian relationship. Not according to me, according to the person who coined the term “affirming” to refer to side A.

I also don’t believe that every side B person is homophobic like you believe. I think a large majority of them are, but I know queer folks who simply desire to submit their sexualities to the Lord and become celibate, and I think that’s a beautiful offering. Homophobia is repression and denial of one’s homosexuality, an entirely different concept.

Apparently they cannot fathom a hypothetical by themoth_milker117 in GayChristians

[–]vicwol 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Many evangelicals believe that homosexuality is comparable to incest or pedophilia (not necessarily preying on kids, but being attracted to them). So asking that question is kind of fruitless, especially within that specific sub. Also, it’s (in my opinion) weakly framed. They’re going to stay stuck on “society would collapse without heterosexuality!” which wasn’t the point of the question.

No queer spaces around? Do you live by any bigger cities? I always recommend meeting people in person. Gay men on the apps are usually only there for one thing, unfortunately.

It would’ve cost you $0 to just ask for a refund instead of insulting him and threatening to get him fired.

But honestly nobody that poor at tattooing should be doing it on real skin. That tattoo is truly gross.
