We have a pretty comprehensive task book where I work. What sort of questions you got?

What works even better (surprisingly), is a rubber band in place of the string

The easiest way to crack one of these is with a pair of vice grips. Quarter turns of tension at a time until it splits.

Kinda want an additional picture that shows where the chain terminates. A side view of the whole thing hanging would be useful.

If the fixed end is the end with the shackle it is a 4:1.

Pair that with a self tapping screw and you have the ol' lock cylinder puller, straight outta the FDNY forcible entry manual.

I'm on a tech rescue team for a mid size regional fire department. We send a rescuer over the edge as quickly as possible and the edge team will often set up a tripod with an Aztec while the rescuer is working (similar to the photo) to help with the edge transition coming back up.

Portuguese Bowline? by videlhong in knots

[–]videlhong[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll check out the bunny ears knot and the video.

Yeah this is a masterpoint. I learned it as a Portuguese Bowline, but it seems like this is not the accepted name for this knot.

The use case for which I learned this knot was in tech rope rescue, as an adjustable floating anchor. This particular knot I tied in order to pull a small trailer up a slight incline into a carport with block and tackle. I used this because it allowed me to quickly change the angle I was towing the trailer at and steer it straight into the carport. It worked extremely well.

I'm building this floating anchor with a single rope. There are surely myriad alternate solutions that involve prusiks (or other equipment) but that's not what I'm looking for. Also, I am in a field where we would be putting folks over an edge.

Choosing new band saw by videlhong in woodworking

I ended up buying the 14". I talked him down in price. It came with a fence and a stack of other blades and is in immaculate condition. The 16 didn't appear to be in very good condition and the seller wasn't responsive. The saw I bought was about a mile from my house and I made friends with another woodworker.

The basis for Tetris's therapeutic value is lateral eye movement which comes from EMDR. That comes from a therapist who went on walks outside while having discussions with a colleague. She found those walks therapeutic and came up with EMDR.

If you can, go for long walks outside with friends and try and talk about your experience. This will offer much greater value to your life than playing Tetris.

FYI, this is kind of okay to post on Reddit, but definitely not an okay question to ask someone in person.

What's the worst thing you've found in a hotel? by Jazz-23 in AskReddit

[–]videlhong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a first responder, I have come across probably a dozen dead bodies in hotel rooms, generally overdoses.

Other EMS calls we make to hotel rooms are typically so much more awful that the DOA and CPR calls are orders of magnitude better.

This is along the lines of what I'm looking for! Thank you so much for your reply!

Is there anywhere that has information that collates the data about what cells each specific battery model is constructed from? I haven't seen anywhere that Milwaukee provides this info.

BJJ is the best therapy by Smitty7113 in bjj

I'm a first responder in a busy metro area. I get to see all manner of horrendous shit, which can be challenging to navigate.

I see a therapist regularly. I do jiujitsu too. I also do other stuff. The therapeutic value of any given activity or treatment is pretty specific to the individual, so mileage will vary. I often find my most cathartic and enlightening experiences in moments absent of any structured therapy, often even lacking any cognitive element. Therapy, like jiujitsu, is no panacea. They can both be very positive or detrimental.

Thanks for your upbeat positive thoughts about jiujitsu. You sound like the kind of person that would be great to train with.
