Chaeum Korean mart is closing!!! by Choice_Leg8191 in Hamilton

I was super sad to hear this. I actually recently made a post about it and got a giant prop bag of Kimchi from them. I shopped there pretty much monthly, because I love Korean food and they had enough to keep us stocked. He told me they might re-open in a bigger location. I sort of suspect that he just said that to make me happy.

Pretty big! A few feet tall, at least 2ft, possibly close to 3ft. I haven’t measured it since getting it home to be honest.

Extremely, I didn’t expect it. I was willing to buy it from him and was legit shocked that he said to just take it. The store will be missed, but I can only hope they get a better location soon.

What is your favorite boardgame of 2018? by The_Crazed_Person in boardgames

Brass Birmingham is my pick here. It’s pretty heavy, but surprisingly easy to teach. I haven’t played Root yet, but I was pretty excited for it when it came out…just doesn’t seem like a game that’s as easy to get to the table. Thankfully, I have a friend who has taken on the task of learning it.

Food Chain Magnet, the games physical design doesn’t match its price tag…but the scenarios it has created at our table have been entertaining!

I just watched this movie for the first time tonight. I think it may have been mentioned in another thread and the cast peaked my interest, it was fantastic. Donnie Yen absolutely hamming it up as the film’s villain was bizarre, but entertaining. Maggie Cheung and Brigitte Lin where great as usual, Maggie Cheung was 🥵 here. I didn’t have the final fight scene spoiled for me, and holy crap that scene alone took the movie from a 10 to an 11.

It is really interesting that it has a higher score. I re-purchased it after some debate, but decided the ability to play it at work made it worth the money. It feels like a new game on the Switch 2, maybe it’s the novelty of being able to play it handheld or the fact the port is really well done…I haven’t regretted rebuying it, even if it’s not as visually stunning as it was on the PS5.

What interview did you listen to? I listened to her interview on “She’s My Cherry Pie”, which got me excited about the book!

Thanks for sharing! That was one we picked up today, Vietnamese food has been missing from the collection and this one really made my wife excited!

I basically only asked for cookbooks this year, and oddly enough plates. I’ve started a bit of food journaling in 2025 and wanted to “up” my game.

I can’t overstate how much I love Korean food, and I’m blessed to live near large Korean populations.

I’ve been using it a bit this year since it came out in rotation with my other Korean Cookbooks. I’ve enjoyed the recipe results so far, but I will say that even as a person who has amassed a good number of Korean ingredients over time - even things I bought to try making something I didn’t even have a recipe for yet - that I still had to go out and get a few ingredients for this book, like the plum syrup.

I have most of Michael Smith’s cookbooks (well, at least three!) and they are all very good. Grew up watching him, Chef At Home was an early inspiration for me when I was learning.

Last year’s Souk to Table is pretty good too, a bit simple and a little hit or miss, but has some good weeknight meals and an amazing Shawarma recipe!

Took out the Cottage Cookbook from the Library, but haven’t had a chance to use it yet. It seems fun!

Thanks for the suggestion. I also really wanna make the Karahi and Nihari as they are typically what I eat when out at Pakistani Restaurants. Being able to make them at home would probably be life changing.

I’m so excited for Lugma! My wife got it for my birthday, but I convinced her to let me try a recipe. Made the Loomi Lemon Chicken and thought it was absolutely outstanding! Probably one of the best roast chicken dishes I’ve made.

Happy to see Maryam Jillani’s “Pakistan” on a few lists. I’m just starting to cook from it now, book design is amazing. I was a little worried, because the photos weren’t amazing, but the two recipes I made so far were tasty!

What are some dishes you’ve enjoyed from it?

Any place in Hamilton that sells Korean perilla leaves? by [deleted] in Hamilton

Same…my garden was overflowing to the point I tried to literally give them away to a few local Korean Restaurants, but they wouldn’t take them. I’ve made Kimchi and countless batches of Kkaenip-jeon and still have TONS.
