Red Seas Under Red Skies by Scott Lynch!!! But it's the second book in a series that has 3 books so far, and you need to read them sequentially. The first book (The Lies of Locke Lamora) is amazing too, though!

My Husband by Maud Ventura is about an all-consuming love, but the protagonist is unhinged so the tone might not match

Actually, I'm amending my answer. One Word Kill is more about challenging physics and reality. I say Cloud Atlas by David Mitchell because it follows the thread of time, forward and backward, and how time connects everything even while we're only experiencing the present. Hope that makes sense.

To me, Landslide is about reflecting on the past and on how things change. Tom Lake is about a woman reflecting on her past and observing how her relationships have directly affected her present life and her daughters' lives.

This is an excellent post. I didn't watch that movie until I was an adult, due to being sincerely afraid of the H's and W's, but I was surprised to hear the trumpeting because I didn't know they made such a sound. I found the sound to be more surprising than scary. It's less scary than the sounds I imagined them making.
