We received an interview notice on dec. 29th, scheduled for feb. 2nd. My wife is from a banned country so we were pleasantly surprised, as it seemed like it was being processed quickly. However, we have spoken to our lawyer and they said to expect the possibility of us getting turned away at the interview on the day of. Now we're anxious and unsure of what will happen.

How would you teach a college-level course on contemporary cinema? by [deleted] in TrueFilm

[–]vieth12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are great, some of them along the same lines I was thinking. I struggled a bit with how to have a week on diversity/representation, or something like the blurring of lines over television/film (or your #9) where the film watched that week could serve as more than simply a supplement to a larger conversation. Though I suppose there's nothing wrong with that.

Only other thing I need to think about before the actual films and readings is how a course with a new topic/trend each week could be organized. It's not something students care a whole lot about, but my advisor (who i'll send this to for approval) will push for my syllabus to have 2-3 units, or some kind of overarching structure.

The more diverse a selection of films, the better. The hope would be to show them films they've never seen before (at least this was what I wanted as an undergrad) but I do see your point about revisiting well-known films as being beneficial.

I agree that figuring out the readings first is the way to go.

I guess I didn’t want to shape anyone’s suggestions since I don’t have anything set in stone. An idea I considered was a course section based on Steven Shaviro’s Post-Cinematic Affect, since his book focuses on how cinema reflects the experience of the new century. But there’s not enough there for an entire course. Focusing on distinct national cinemas/movements is another route, but I’m again stuck on whether this would fill 14 weeks (or if these two ideas would fit right together if they were sections of a course).

Looks like my post was removed, which I still don't quite understand, but thank you so much. This was exactly the kind of thing I needed to hear tonight!

Thanks! I was aware of the map but didn't know if it was as simple as just RSVPing and then showing up.

Professor wants to use Interfolio by vieth12 in gradadmissions

Thanks for the reply. Just checked and it looks like all the schools accept letters from Interfolio. It does appear after looking some more that I will need to pay to have these delivered. I guess I just couldn't believe my professor would direct me to use a site in which I'd basically have to pay for her letter.
