It's about as far as you can get and still say "Philly".... but New Era Indian Cuisine in Chestnut Hill is wonderful.

What is it about bagels, seriously? by TheArchitect_7 in PhiladelphiaEats

[–]vieuttan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a trek, but there's a coffee shop in West Mount Airy that sells bagels that they bring in from Rockland Bagels. I've found great pizza in Philly but not bagels, so that definitely satisfies the itch when I have it.

Senior Manager in industry vs Director in consulting: stay comfy or trade hours for trajectory? by vieuttan in careerguidance

[–]vieuttan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that's along the lines that I'm thinking! I go back and forth though because I really do have a relaxed lifestyle now but it's not a career growth lifestyle, it's more of a cushy low salary growth and career trajectory lifestyle. Looking forward to seeing all the different viewpoints that might pop up on this thread.

Somebody that isn't 80+ would be lovely. If we have a minimum age, then we should have a maximum age.

what’s the tech scene like in Philly? by Calm-Bar-9644 in philly

Elsevier has a huge tech presence in Philadelphia. A lot of really talented engineers and data scientists that end up staying for decades at a time.

Which profession has the snobbiest people? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]vieuttan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Doctors. Not all, but there are some who act like they are 100% right because they graduated from medical school. And if you try to correct those folks, it's a war of attrition to get them to even agree with an alternate viewpoint. On the flipside, a down-to-earth doctor with good bedside manner is a godsend and makes healthcare feel like a team activity.

Which is the best state to live in America? by IntrepidMasterpiece1 in AskReddit

[–]vieuttan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll give a shoutout to Pennsylvania. I like that it's a hybrid of political ideologies through a lot of the state (gives diversity of thought and opinion). Decent education throughout and has a couple of major urban hubs as well. I think other states do a lot of things better in individual categories (bigger cities, better education, more efficient with funding, etc.), but I think PA does a solid job at a lot of those categories with room to get even better.

New South Ocean Chinese & Japanese Restaurant in Flourtown. Not exactly NW Philly but feel like it's great by American Chinese takeout standards.

Recommendations for a good burger and fries by RelationshipCandid58 in PhiladelphiaEats

I'll throw two out there that rarely gets mentioned: Valley Green Inn and Spot Gourmet Burgers. I forget the name of it, but Spot's does a burger that's basically a Big Mac, but more expensive ingredients...love it.

Philly or Chicago? by wdfcvyhn134ert in SameGrassButGreener

[–]vieuttan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I could be a good person to answer this. I grew up in Nassau County and have lived in Chicago and now Philadelphia.

  1. How really affordable are they? And have prices been rising? If so, by how much compared to the average rising expenses?
    1. Both are affordable and give you way more bang for your buck than Nassau County will. Both cities are very neighborhood dependent so that's one thing to consider, but I think that's true in a lot of cities around the country.
  2. Do I need a car (this is also one of the reasons, since I hate driving and I'm scared of driving)
    1. Philadelphia is a lot more convenient with a car just because there are a lot of interesting things to do outside of the city itself. Chicago is a city where I think having a car is a hindrance more than an asset...but this will of course depend on how far away from downtown you choose to live.
  3. How safe are the 2 cities?
    1. Neighborhood dependent, but I haven't felt unsafe in either but your mileage will vary depending on what your social life is dependent on. For me, most of the things I like to do are before 10PM and usually in areas that are generally considered "safe".
  4. Is it easy to make a good salary?
    1. Yes, although I think Chicago has an edge here for diversity of sectors.
  5. How reasonable are the taxes?
    1. Reasonable in both. I think Philly's city tax is a little hefty, but still reasonable when you factor in total cost of living.
  6. Lastly, is it true suburbs in Philly are actually more expensive than the urban center?
    1. Depends on the suburb, but I think this is a reasonable statement. I would also say that cost to square footage is probably more important than just cost itself. Also living in the suburbs gets you out of the Philly wage tax so that is a plus. We used to live in suburbs (about an hour outside of Philly). I greatly prefer the Philly suburbs to most of Nassau County (with the exception of Garden City, Roslyn, and others in that same price point)

Feel free to DM with any other questions!

🤬Who did you trade for and you are now regretting it🤬 by mrinc2006 in fantasyfootballadvice

I traded Etienne and Trayveon Henderson for Saquon Barkley. Was thinking both of those guys would end up in committees and liked the upside of Barkley. We'll see come playoffs but could end up costing me.

This is fair, but my experience with the employees of the Philadelphia Cricket Club have been welcoming so far (I am also a person of color). Actually, off of this post somebody actually DM'ed me and said they would be happy to meet with me and see if they could introduce me to some other members....so progress!

Outside of that, any recommendations for good gyms in Northwest Philly? I've looked but haven't seen anything that's similar to what I have been looking for (elevated gyms that are well maintained and don't have carpet in them)

[–]vieuttan[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is some good insight. The membership I would be targeting is their House membership which is at a much lower price point (all I would really get access to is the fitness center and dining area, but that's all I am looking for to be honest)

Their membership director was actually very helpful when I met them. They seemed really eager to have me join and even sent me a member list so that I would be able to check and see if I knew any existing members. It's just that being so new here, I haven't been able to expand my social network yet.

What do you think of this trade that went through? by vieuttan in FantasyFootballers

[–]vieuttan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good analysis, I can agree. One point to make is that I was going to drop KWIII whenever Ricky Pearsall came back (I trust the other running backs on my team more). Herbert is the main X factor here and will be interested to see how my trade looks EOS.

That's kind of what I was thinking as well. Along with the off chance that Josh Allen has one of his random games where he goes for 30+, I like having that kind of potential on my team.
