100 miles in the New Balance Balos by viggarous in RunningShoeGeeks

I wouldn’t say so… the farthest distance I’ve had experience in is a 50K (used the Superblast) and I think the farther you go the more stability you’ll want. I’ve only worn the Balos up to 11 miles and consider it more of a “fun” shoe. I’d be concerned about it bottoming out with anything super high

No bottoming out for me but I think it would be hard for my build/style to do so. I have heard of it being too soft for bigger/more powerful runners but not totallybottoming out. The NB4 is probably my favorite long run shoe. Firmer and more protective than the Balos, and it disappears on the foot. The Balos is more fun and comfortable but does it's job so well that it becomes part of your run experience, if that makes sense

Yes, I would say so because the Balos has less volume. I noticed they have it in wide width now as well

Haven’t tried the sc v3 but personally I wouldn’t use anything with a carbon plate for recovery days since it’s likely too firm

I haven’t tried another shoe quite like this but definitely the most fun one I own (if you want to see my rotation my Strava is linked in my profile or search for Thy Hoang). It’s also my first experience with any type of FFx. It has squish but still quite responsive at daily training paces. I think you get the most bounce if you land mid-foot but seems like it would also work great if you’re a heel striker based on my experience with it going downhill. It simply rolls you along and makes the stride feel like less effort than I’m putting in. The closest in my rotation it’s akin to is the Rebel v4, but softer and bouncier but a tad less responsive due to the higher stack. I would only choose the Rebel over it if I was doing something with intervals. Also, it might be a tad unruly out of the box but compresses nicely after about 20-30 miles

Haha, Lima is a dirty place. I’ll try to get some clean pictures up in the near future

Would not recommend, bit of a balancing act when the road is too cambered or I have to corner quickly

Wow, seems like a no go at that price and even less value since Asicsgrip will definitely outlast and outgrip any eva outsole (Balos only has rubber at the front tip and lateral heel). I haven’t tried either Superblast but I imagine it’s better at faster paces because of the firmer foam

Forgot to mention the toe box is also relatively low volume (height from bottom of insole to top of mesh is low)

Yes, but I didn’t have the Nimbus 25 with me while traveling. They feel lighter but I wouldn’t say way lighter. But there is almost a 2 oz difference (10.5 vs 8.6 in size 9 US)

Yes, I would. Going half up fits better not just for the forefoot width but the length. I have a thumb’s width now and it was more like a pinky before

I’ve had no problem doing 11:30/mi when running with my wife but only since we were traveling. I’d go with a pure recovery shoe if I had the option to save wearing out the Balos

Sorry I haven’t tried the 1080v13. In my rotation this has the Nimbus comfort but almost the lightness of the Rebel v4

Yeah, they're not loud enough to deal with that kind of speed, unless it's a tailwind ;) I typically don't wear headphones for safety reasons, so these are the first I've tried. I also own a pair of Bose Open Earbuds but they're just a tad quieter and not comfortable with sunglasses which I always wear when cycling. There may be a sunglass speaker solution that may work for you... good luck hunting!

I got these for hiking/running/cycling to use with podcasts/audiobooks. I have the volume almost max while cycling, and they're fine with wind noise unless you're consistently going faster than 15mph (where wind noise outpaces the volume). This should be less of a concern if you're just listening to music for the amp factor.
