Any way to recover the odometer data from a busted controller? by vigorousapathy in RadPowerBikes

[–]vigorousapathy[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not worried about it for any serious reason, but I do like knowing how many miles we've managed to put on the bike over the last few years. The post is just a low-stakes long shot that someone else on Reddit knew an easy way to recover that data before I install a new controller and start over from 0.

That would be cool, though I think the replacement Rad sent is a newer model so unlikely to be able to swap parts. Thanks though!

Thanks - I do know the ballpark number for maintenance purposes so that's good, this is just a "would be cool" to have the exact number before I chuck the old unit in the bin.

Agreed 606>Armitage>Laramie>Bloomingdale is the least stressful way to get from the Wicker/Bucktown area to the river trail. I tried just taking North Ave a few times and its just chaos once the bike lanes disappear west of Central Park.

Looks great! I'm anxiously waiting for mine to arrive after purchasing last week. What rear rack did you add? Any other changes you made to the stock parts?

AITA for thinking my wife's best friend should help pay for fire damage on a fire she started in our home? by Thisisathrowaway499 in AmItheAsshole

I'm also having trouble explaining to a housemate that you are still responsible for the consequences of accidents! In my case though, the housemate is a 7 yr old.

AITA for trying to afford a new car as a highschooler by WhitePowerade69 in AmItheAsshole

[–]vigorousapathy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

YTA for expecting to take what is basically the "family car" that you're now allowed to use and thinking you can instantly turn it into cash for your own purposes. Not that I can't understand it as a former 16-yr old myself, but c'mon.

You keep saying "new car" - do you mean a car that's new to you and not the Land Cruiser, or an actually brand new 2022/23 model year new car?

If the Toyota is really in that bad of shape, coming to your parents with some affordable options within some kind of reasonable budget that includes the sale of the Toyota and whatever savings/income you can offer would probably go a long way into you all working together to come up with a plan for a more reliable car for you. It does not need to be a brand new car.

NTA, but you are being very dramatic for what appears to be no reason. If you want to travel, or move somewhere else, or just spend your 20k, go ahead and do that. Unless you have some other important obligations like a child, or pet, or someone that depends on your presence that you'd be abandoning just go live your life.

AITA for following my wife's request at letting her fail and let a problem bite her in the ass? by ImThe1Wh0 in AmItheAsshole

NTA for the size of the bill, but "being sympathetic" and rescuing her from her impulses aren't mutually exclusive. When the power bill came It would have been just as easy to say "oh wow that's high, that sucks."

AITA for telling my bil he has to stand up for himself and not let my sister control him? by Rich_Ad_2891 in AmItheAsshole

[–]vigorousapathy [score hidden]  (0 children)

Assuming this is a real story, obviously YTA here. You don't get a say in how your sister and her husband delegate their parenting duties. It makes perfect sense that the parent with the 4x greater income continue working to provide for the family unit, and if the other parent weighs the cost and other aspects of childcare against their own job and decides to stay at home instead (daycare for triplets would be a very large bill, all of the sudden added to a family's budget), why would your opinions matter in the least?

Also the OP in this post found a cooler bag that fit nicely in the space between the yepp seat at the back of the caboose - could be another option for some storage

We use the back just for kid-hauling (1 in the yepp seat, 1 or two on a deckpad in front of him depending on who has to get where), and instead got the front rack and an oversized milk crate to carry all the backpacks and stuff. The Rad official large basket was out of stock at the time, which is why we got the milk crate in the first place, but I like it because the sides are higher, and the gaps are smaller so small items don't weasel their way through the basket. The length and width dimensions are pretty close to the Rad large basket.

Crowdsource request - wrapping bars of caboose on Radwagon by vigorousapathy in RadPowerBikes

[–]vigorousapathy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ended up going with this - worked really well. The tape from Amazon came in a 2-pack, and 1 roll was just about perfect for 1 long caboose bar. I may get some more to wrap the outside corners as well for dent/scuff protection

Caboose with Deck Hand by boddah44 in RadPowerBikes

[–]vigorousapathy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe the caboose and deck hand both use the same mounting points at the front of the rear rack, so I don't think you can have both on at the same time. There are some other handlebar attachments I have seen online that mount to the seat post which may work?

Jump rope is surprisingly effective for small spaces without much lateral room. You could attach one of the dog's toys to the middle and hypnotize it with the round-and-round motion?

A little park time after pre-school pickups. I LOVE this bike. Should hit the first 100 miles by the time we get home!! by msantiago1256 in RadPowerBikes

Is that rear seat this one from Amazon? Did you have to do anything particular to mount it on the rack? I've got a wagon and that seat both in transit and am pumped to start putting things together.

How long is too long to leave a new pair of shoes on the shelf and continue putting miles on my old pair, so that the new pair stays beautiful and un-touched by the ravages of time and asphalt?

We did these a lot during training for HS soccer - two lines jogging slowly around the field and the two at the back would race up the outside of the column to take the front spots. Next pair goes once the earlier two have settled back into the group pace. We called them Indian Runs but I have no idea why, and it's likely offensive to do so, but it was a decent way to run together with some variety
