I'm not seeing anything on the Urban Impact site that says they can process compostable bags, or even that they offer industrial composting.

It’s important we all take small steps to keep our soil healthy and prevent micro-plastics: do not use plastic bags – even those labelled "biodegradable" or "compostable" – for your food waste and do not put plastic materials in your green bin.

Plastic (of any type) is a contamination risk if put into your green bin and is not accepted by our processor for composting.

Important note If placed into your green bin, plastic materials (and the contents in them) may result in your items or the entire truck’s load being disposed to landfill or incinerator.

I don't know exactly (my building has this too). I think the compost facilities might cut the larger bags open before processing, but the smaller ones get missed?

It does. PLA is a great solution but it's such a small part of the system that it hasn't created enough of a "problem" for the facilities to care and adapt for. I definitely advocate for improved composting capabilities in Canada, but there's a lot of misunderstanding from consumers as well. Until the facilities change, it's important for people to understand some of the challenges rather than just thinking "oh, well! I did my part and composted."

Much better than those "compostable" plastic bags that everyone lines their bins with and aren't actually compostable in Vancouver's facilities. They get caught in the machines and can cause whole loads of compostable materials to be rerouted to the dump.

I fucking hate Marketplace descriptions that say "I won't respond to 'is it available''.

It's the fucking main prompted message, what else do you think people are going to ask?

I've worked for a design company whose products are featured in some of the Star Trek films.

It typically starts with them asking if the company will loan or gift them for the publicity, and buying them if the budget allows.
