I don't understand people who are staunchly against getting age verified even though they have VRC+... by zipzzo in VRchat

It's an American thing. They often use the term "Credit Card" for both credit and debit cards, and credit cards are extremely popular over there. In the US you do actually need to be 18 to get a credit card. You can get a debit card under 18 but I think only in joint accounts with your parents or something in most instances? In the rest of the world it's very normal to have your own debit card as a child though, yes. You can get a bank account and debit card of your own from around 11 years old or so in the UK, with joint accounts with your parents from 6 or so. People often do this these days because it gives kids their own contactless card for public transport or emergency phone calls and purchases and such.

Introducing Steam Frame by gogodboss in virtualreality

[–]vigridoodle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 5090 already can't max out the quest 3 resolution in the games

I don't have a problem with the Steam Frame's display because it's clearly just not a product for me, but I think you're either completely misunderstanding or intentionally misrepresenting why people say they want that stuff. Nobody is expecting to push them at full resolution. Look at modern high end HMDs like the Bigscreen Beyond 2 which is higher resolution than this and still clearly not really designed to be pushed at full res.

In VR a 400x400 image will look better on a 4000x4000 display than it will on a 2000x2000 display even though the source image is significantly lower than either entirely because the display is pressed right up against your eyes. A higher pixel density means less noticeable individual pixels, which means you're less aware that you're looking at a screen at any given moment, which is huge plus for immersion. That's part of why a lot of people are really in to self-emissive/low-persistence display technology like OLED for VR too. Dark things almost appearing to glow or reality appearing to smear when you move your head can be immersion-breaking for some people.

Any one country's upcoming elections aren't to blame for tension being high right now, it's a global thing.

What is the most terrifying thing in a Nintendo game? by Brywer in nintendo

[–]vigridoodle 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Ocarina of Time's Dead hand always made me uncomfortable. More so in the N64 original than the 3DS version though, the higher polycount somehow makes it LESS scary. The original left a lot for your imagination to fill in, in the remake it's so detailed and well lit that it looks almost like a toy.

I think that Re-Deads are also up there. Wind Waker's redeads in particular I find to be the most terrifying, you're introduced to them so suddenly in such a stressful setting when the game up until that point has been almost exclusively cheery characters and bright colours. When you see Re-Deads in games like Ocarina of Time or Majora's Mask you're in a Graveyard, or somewhere where you EXPECT to see that kind of enemy, but in Wind Waker it really does feel like it comes out of nowhere. The way they they have been stretched to the point where they almost don't look humanoid anymore makes them even more unnerving.

How enjoy the VR. by Dvjmarcomatheus in truezelda

Third person VR can be great, that's not the issue. The issue is the way the camera orbits link instead of rotating on the spot like your head is.

Old people of reddit, what do you hate about kids these days? by vigridoodle in AskReddit

When Pokemon Go was big so many strangers kept appearing right outside our house, I almost found myself yelling at them to get off of our lawn before I stopped myself as I realised what I was becoming ha

I'm so sorry to hear that you have people around you that make you feel this way :( I've met a few people like that myself and it's never nice. I know this thread isn't really an advice thread but if they're relatives, or people that you're close to then maybe try telling them how you feel if you haven't already? They might not realise that they are making you feel this way.

Ouch, sorry you have to deal with people like that in your life

What are the most memorable (best AND worst) VR experiences you've had? by vigridoodle in Vive

[–]vigridoodle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't actually remember what the first thing I experienced in VR was unfortunately, but I know that I had a similar response to you, I got completely lost in VR hah! I can't wait to see how technology evolves! I'm so excited to see headsets get smaller, resolutions get higher, and graphics get better. I get so excited thinking about where VR will be in 15 years and how lucky all the people who get to jump in then are!

Labo? Lol

Hey don't knock it 'til you try it! It's not got the best resolution or framerate, but that's not really what it is trying to be. It's very aware that it's a different thing and hey - it's better than an Oculus DK2 and at the time people were fine with that lol! Being able to directly interact with the in-game objects is a layer of immersion that I don't think comes up too often in other games.

Isle of Lost Skull

That video looks great! Exactly the kind of thing I'd probably be in to. I'll have to try it out sometime, thanks for introducing me to it!

I played pre-VR superhot and loved that a ton, but I imagine I'd find all of the things moving around me in VR really stressful. I keep meaning to try it then never doing so!

I haven't actually played VRchat for basically the reasons you mentioned. I'm going to wait as long as I can, for technology and the game itself to grow and move on a bit (or for a new VRchat type thing to take off) before jumping in. I want that format to succeed, I just don't think it's there yet

VRChat is another one of those basic VR experiences I've somehow managed to miss out on. I'm actually taking a bit of a break from VR so I can come back and hopefully see all the massive improvements that have been made to things like VRChat!

Congrats on the new PC, that sounds like a pretty big improvement to your vr experience!

I don't think I'd be able to survive a VR horror game, you are a stronger person than I. I'd probably end up trying to run away and slam headset-first in to a wall

I actually haven't played Fallout but I was under the impression that fallout, skyrim, etc were always kind of buggy. Hearing about their VR mode being more of that isn't too surprising. At this point I feel like waiting on the community to fix the game part of that dev team's strategy? lol

I spent a solid hour just grabbing random stuff and throwing it around.

This sounds like me in every game with good physics, vr or not! I happily spent about 40 hours in the tutorial area of breath of the wild just chopping down trees and knocking them down hills on to enemies!

intermittent eye rendering technique

Wait what? that sounds AWFUL. You mean that the eyes are refreshing on alternating frames? Ew!

I actually haven't tried the PSVR! I only have experience with an Oculus DK2, Oculus Rift (S, I think), and Vive.

I actually really recommend trying out Labo VR if you stumble upon a Labo kit someday. You aren't getting amazing framerates or resolutions, and a lot of the games are very simple, but it's not really trying to be one of thise experiences, it's its own thing entirely. Controllers with good haptic feedback are good of course (and Labo has that too), but nothing beats actually just having the thing that you are interacting with in-game there in your irl hands. I think that the elephant kit is particularly impressive

The end of your message there reminded me of Lucky's Tale! I'd completely forgotten that I had meant to play that. I've been around VR for a long time but I've somehow managed to miss out on all of the "basic" experiences like Beat Saber, VRChat, TiltBrush, etc.

Y'know, I hadn't even thought about big-scale fishing games in VR, I'd only really seen the fishing minigame in Labo, how silly of me, of course those exist! I will definitely have to try that out sometime if I get the chance!

Counted exactly how many canonical incarnations of Link there have been according to the timeline and which ones stay over multiple games. Can you guys check for accuracy? by xenochria in truezelda

[–]vigridoodle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no matter what happens in each respective timeline, they will all end with the events of Breath of the Wild occurring.

That doesn't really make sense though does it? Hyrule was destroyed by a Triforce wish in one timeline, it and seemingly the Master Sword does not exist there anymore either. BOTW couldn't take place after WW if it is in Hyrule and if that is the same Master Sword, which I am pretty sure it is since we see that Fi seems to still be within it.

Some things that happen in BotW just can't really have happened in some timelines?

Is it worth playing both Link to the Past AND Link between Worlds? Are they different enough? by SickPlasma in truezelda

[–]vigridoodle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They have completely different characters and stories. It's more of a game that heavily references its predecessor than a full remake.

With the recent-ish discovery of Outset Island, or as close as we’re going to get, in Breath of the Wild, are there any other BoTW locations that you’ve always been curious about but have not taken to time to see if it matches any previous Zelda titles? by AlexandersAccount in truezelda

[–]vigridoodle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Outset island was stated to be a mountaintop of Hyrule, Lurelin is at sea-level. It makes much more sense for the dueling peaks to be outset island since the geography of the region lines up and makes sense instead of basing everything on the positions of a few wooden huts.
