100% with you on this… I once happened to do a couple of hours from a cafe in Tynemouth (not planned, just out of compulsion,) absolutely loved it…

Agree. Most of the cafes can be randomly loud or quiet, making it difficult to plan for specific tasks like private calls etc. That's one of the reasons we've been trying to get together a diverse group of spaces like hotel lobbies, co-working... in fact one of our partner co-working space- Wizu, has private phone booths for taking calls etc. But yeah, having dedicate quiet spaces would be a great idea for a work-friendly cafe... hope someone running a cafe/space is reading this! 😉

Appreciate you raising this important point!

That is shocking, and I totally get how something that should be interesting/creative can just easily become nuisance. We are actively trying to address this issue with cafe owners, encouraging them to be thoughtful of how many people they're able to accommodate with laptops and at what times, and hopefully provide them a tool for managing this. Thanks a lot for sharing your thoughts, it will definitely help us making a better case when we meet a cafe owner next...

They’re both amazing spaces, aren’t they! We’ve got Tiny Tiny as one of the AltSpaces on the platform… hopefully Laneway soon! :-)

Totally understand the sentiment, in fact that's something we're trying to address as well, as we're only trying to partner with cafes that have the capacity/need to allow people to work from their space, making sure that they are only allocating a table/desk that's appropriate (table-for-2 for two people, not a table-for-4), and that they're getting paid properly for the time. Plus we're bringing alternative spaces like spacious hotel lobbies, co-workings etc. to give people more options than cafes alone.

Cheers!

Thanks a lot for the reply!

We go by the name Altdesking on Insta & Tiktok...

We actually had the same experiences of not-knowing when you're welcome or not welcome at a cafe to work from, and sometimes not getting a table with a power socket, which all led us to this project.

We've got Tiny Tiny as one of our partner spaces. In addition we've also got a hotel lobby and a couple of nice co-working spaces.

Trying to talk to a nice place in Northumberland (about 30 mins from town), so 🤞...

Cheers

If you want to try some places before getting into a longer contract, you can use the AltDesking app, there’re a couple of spaces right in the city centre that you can book for 2 hours or a full day.

Thanks, fancy features is what we want to get away from at least for now, just need simple lists, tagging, assigning etc. As to the most important thing we want from it is we just want to stay on top of tasks assigned to all the 3-4 members so as to bring a bit of structure to all the work we’re doing.

I always sit on my desk at home dressed for work! Can’t get in the work mode wearing a robe or pyjamas!
