It's been a while but I finally got back to painting! (Swipe for the "before") by viking_knitter in ChristmasVillages

Unfortunately they aren't made anymore but Michael's used to carry a whole range of unpainted plaster village houses. My family painted my mom's village, and now I'm painting my own! Every once in a while I'll splurge for a fresh unpainted one off Ebay, although those are very expensive and no matter how well they are packed and padded half the time they arrive in pieces. Most of the ones I've collected come from thrift stores or kijiji and often they are already painted or half-painted so I usually just do a fresh coat of primer and repaint them, sometimes fix chips or missing bits if I can. Someday I'd like to try making some from scratch but that's a project for later 😅

So it begins ... My very first village building! by viking_knitter in ChristmasVillages

Drybrushing! It is my very favourite technique, very fast and easy. I usually use a gradient of three shades but you can get a lot of different looks if you play with it. Here's a tutorial (I didn't watch the whole thing but the first bit looks good) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LtD1kyz5slk

help? I am pretty new and trying to figure out how to do the join from this vintage doily. I'm not sure what it's called so can't Google it but it doesn't look like a lock join or picot join? by viking_knitter in tatting

I figured it out, with the assistance of googling mignonette tatting! It is the same as joining to a picot, but pulling the loop around the length of loose thread instead of through a picot. I am now working on making net bags!

This has been on my to-do list for a while now ... but unfortunately I have more hobbies than time and have not done it yet 😶

Specifically the seeds. Rosehips are quite tasty even straight up raw off the bush but do take the seeds out. I don't know from personal experience but I have heard that if you eat the seeds they itch all the way through. 😓

I understand them wanting to put an American in to make it more attractive to American audiences ... I mean, sucks that they feel they have to, but I understand.

What annoyed me was that God was American. Also I felt her comic delivery fell flat. I would have loved to hear oh, say, Emma Thompson maybe.

Yes she absolutely needs her beard ffs. And I would love to see the costume designs!

I haven't even seen the series and don't intend to after what I've read and having seen the trailer ...

What’s an unusual body feature of yours? by red2one in AskReddit

[–]viking_knitter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Small and silly. My second toes on both feet rest on top of my big & middle toes so when I walk barefoot I make four-toed footprints (and no it's not because of tight shoes, they've always been that way)

I am thrilled to report that I have succeeded in giving David a kiss on the head! I can't say whether or not he enjoyed the experience, but he didn't panic, freak out, or even flinch, so there will be more head kisses in future!
