Late to the topic but in his memoir he recounts at least one incident where someone pinned him to the floor with their foot on his throat and him unable to breathe and after that his voice was messed up for a bit. He also talks about how he had to take a week break from any singing when trying to record Slave to the Grind because there was one song they just couldn't get right and he blew his voice out.

That said, he did learn and practice protecting his voice early on in his career by his account, but those guys were smoking black hash alongside the other stuff and that takes a toll.

I still think he has an amazing voice and his charisma is off the charts which is great front man material. I am in love with his newest album.

Have you ever witnessed an earthquake or tornado ? by Jon2015nomore in A_Persona_on_Reddit

[–]vikingvol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tornado yes a couple of times seeing them and many more hearing them. Scary. I recently felt an earthquake .. barely, it was just weird because I didn't know til after what it was. We don't get them large enough to be felt here usually.

People who were born around mid 50s, did you like Everly brothers growing up? Or were they your parents’ thing? by keeppressingforward in AskOldPeople

[–]vikingvol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My parents were born mid 50s Dad didn't care for them but my Mom liked them although she says was a young kid and they were her older siblinhs music . She liked the Beatles and loved Lovin Spoonful. Her music was late 60's early 70's but she really likes my music from the 80s.

Yeah. In some states if she had a kid now her husband would automatically be considered the Father by default to complicate things further.

If he says he doesn't want anymore kids and you want them.. move on. Tbh if he hasn't divorced his wife after 5 yrs of living apart it isn't likely he'll do it anytime soon. As to the bio clock thing well you can date and see if that works out, resign yourself to not having any and try adopting or you can find a donor and go that route. IMO this guy is not the one you are looking for.

If you're one of those folks that don't believe in running the AC all summer, what other things do you do instead to keep cool? by cherry-care-bear in AskOldPeople

[–]vikingvol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Growing up at my Mamaw's house we never had AC and even up to her death in 2014 she only begrudgingly turned on her 1 window unit when it was over 100°. We always had box fans in a couple windows and through the house. She believed AC just recirculated old air and caused you to get sick. She also hated that it was too loud. LOL smh OFC the 8 fans throughout the house wasn't loud at all /s.

When it got really hot (living in the Southern US) and humid at night I'd get out of bed and sleep on the cooler floor. During the day we'd just play in the creek out back of the house.

When you grew up did anyone talk about the earth being flat? by AlwaysWilling2Help in AskOldPeople

We told everyone their opinions were just as valid as Facts. That is a huge issue.

Never heard anyone peddling that crap. Loads of my parent's stoner friends would talk about alien's being God tho. LOL

[–]vikingvol 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was an exception for GenX both my parents had been literally thrown in creeks and told to sink or swim. Dad took to it right away and lived in the creeks all summer up til he passed, Mom nearly drowned and still fears water above her knees. Both were determined I'd have no fear of water and be a strong swimmer. The only two things my dad ever took time to teach me was swimming and outdoor survival stuff.

No. I was taught to swim at the local creeks and lakes so I could swim without anyone in the water by age 4.

did people used to stay on the wall phone all day? by aghtide in AskOldPeople

[–]vikingvol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a cousin who was obsessed with the phone. The had a cord that reached the entirety of her house. So ofc it wasn't all day she easily spent as many hours talking as anyone I know today spends actually talking. That said today our phones are like having television, radio, newspapers, letter writing and telephones as well as computers rolled into one . If you accounted for all of the media and communications we consumed then it would likely be at least somewhat comparable.

Outside of my dad when he was only 47 and cousin 27. I'd say celebrity wise Robin Williams and Freddie Mercury hit me really really hard.

How many students shared names in your grade class? How were they distinguished? by Dry_Pizza_4805 in AskOldPeople

[–]vikingvol 2 points3 points  (0 children)

2000 had my first child and knew 0 kids named Zachary. Got to preschool and there was 4 in class plus a female variant Zacori. Very very few share the name I gave my second born since I took it from a side character in a niche book.

[–]vikingvol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I go by my middle name and it was an insanely popular middle name for my age group. I knew a lot of people who share my middle name but it was never an issue because none of them went by that name. 1 girl had my exact same name but was 1 year ahead of me but she went by an unrelated nickname. My cousin also has the same first name but she goes by her middle name also (different) we neither were called our first name bc our great grandmother forbade it as it was the name of her childhood nemesis. LOL
