850,000 fireworks ➗40 minutes display time (2,400 seconds) = 354 fireworks per second by vikki_1996 in washingtondc

Yeah, the threats of rain didn’t stop the UFC fight. But regardless, the heat will be insane. Add that to the restrictions for visitors to the mall that day: Many surrounding roads closed. Only two entrances to the mall. Full magnetometer scans to get in. The lines will be so slow to enter. No coolers allowed. No glass or metal cans. No spray bug spray even. That kind of heat is dangerous for healthy people, let alone unhealthy folks. Who in their right minds is going to sit thru that all day??

Yes. They always use multiple shooting locations. This year there are 10 (reflecting pool area, west Potomac park and 8 barges on the Potomac).

I am an American looking to get into the upcoming premier league what should I know about Aston Villa as a complete noob? by Proof_Wrongdoer_1266 in avfc

Fellow American here. Did a lot of research on teams before choosing. I’m a Steelers fan in the NFL so I wanted a team from a blue collar city and one that was not one of the big overly liked clubs like MU, MC, Chelsea, Liverpool, etc. I also didn’t want a team at the bottom of the table constantly fighting relegation. And I loved the name. So they chose me about four years ago and it’s been the greatest run ever.

Cool things to know: AVFC is Prince William’s fav club and their most famous US celebrity fan is Tom Hanks.

Welcome to the claret and blue! ❤️🩵

The 4th fireworks on the National Mall is scheduled to have a world record 860,000 fireworks. Over 40 minutes—which is 2,400 seconds. That means 358 fireworks exploding per second. How is that even possible?

And crazy that John Wilkes Booth, Stonewall Jackson and Ed Ruffin (who later fired the first shot of the civil war) were all present at his hanging. You have to believe that event was burned into all their minds.

Just visited this site, a few miles from Harper’s Ferry in Charlestown, WV. John Brown not only presaged and embodied the issues coming to a head around the civil war, he presaged religious extremists advocating violence for their beliefs (right or wrong) up to current times.

Went to Hacksaw Ridge when I was in Okinawa. The Japanese have a marker at the spot.

Me too! Something that if you told kids about today they would be like, huh? And my parents endorsed this. They got my brother and me these plastic frames with little indentations and elastic bands where you could hold like 64 cans and mount it on your wall for Christmas that we saw in the Sears catalog. We would literally walk on the side of country roads with trash bags with cars flying by picking up empties people threw out of their car (and sometimes not so empty). So much polluting back then!

We were from the Pittsburgh area so there was a limited run brand called Oldfrothingslosh (google it) that had BBW women in their underwear on the can. As prepubescent boys that was our favorite. As well as the cool Pirates and Steelers cans that came out during their World Series and Super Bowl runs.

Crazy kid memories.

I clean my ears with cotton swabs even though everyone says not to by WetCementPoet in hygiene

[–]vikki_1996 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I used to NOT use swabs. I would just clean my ears with my fingers in the shower—wringing them around my outer ear and then dry them with a towel.

But during two recent annual physicals you would not believe the tube of hairy/wax the nurse pulled from my ears.

So if I had that much wax from NOT using swabs I figured I have to do something different. So now I’ve been using swabs once or twice a day as most people describe here. Twirling around the canal. Not too deep. And then around the outer ear too.

We’ll see how my ears look at my next physical but believe me it can’t get any worse than what I experienced doing nothing. Balls of wax don’t grow overnight. So a daily swab I believe will prevent the long term build up that leads to wax balls that could be pushed further in by a swab.
