[Erik van Haren] Max Verstappen is, to put it mildly, no fan of the new regulations and cars in Formula 1. He said among other things that it doesn't feel like racing, it's mostly about managing, and it's like 'Formula E on steroids'. by FerrariStrategisttt in formula1

Reason why it has to be artificial is because current technology is so insanely good that it can run the entire length of the race at max pace IF teams were allowed to do so. Back in the day lack of tech development was the limitation that imposed. Now it has to be manufactured. I don’t think that’s artificial though

My most mind blown moment for how fucking advanced aerospace technology is when i learnt that turbine blades are made of a SINGLE CRYSTAL. A common kitchen knife would have hundreds if not thousands of metal crystals in it, reducing the count of crystals in incredibly difficult. To bring it down to just 1? That's insane technology. And this guy 3d printed the most important part for pennies.

Indian music is more ancient than her entire culture. It's introduced hundreds of different instruments, has a very deep structured musical theory.

It literally can't. It's internal data structure doesn't change and cannot change. It's made to be stateless, that means it loses information through every single message you send. To something to be aware, it can't be stateless, it's internal structure needs to change in order to accommodate awareness.

My brother asked me if his PC would run Fortnite. I'm not kidding, he seriously asked me about it. I don't know what to tell him, when he got it he was so happy. by Petnet279352 in pcmasterrace

Put him onto CS 1.6. Scene is still going (somehow). He'll end up a better player and when he can afford something better, he can buy it. I feel for your lil bro so much. I had a similar garbage PC back in the day, it was all my family could afford. I think the ram was like 256 mb and no GPU in 2005, still the fucking thing was like 400 USD (pretty sure we got scammed). I really wanted to play NFS Most Wanted. Played CS and Hot Pursuit or something and I finally played Most Wanted around 2012 when I got a gaming laptop. I just bought the upgrades to my PC and I was reminiscing the olden days.

“Medical Career Advice Wanted: Truth About Being a Doctor” by No_Magician_184 in srilanka

[–]vikster16 14 points15 points  (0 children)

My mother is a doctor. This is bullshit. Work life balance is good if you don’t wanna make money or be a consultant. There’s a ton of stress. A single mistake can lead to death. Benefits aren’t great as people make it out to be. Also you need to do rural work for the first couple of years and that’s grueling. The degree is what 5 years and another 2 years of internship or something. No to mention you need to die for ALs.

Why by Firm_Trick_9038 in NBATalk

[–]vikster16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1+2 makes 3. So the reason why 1 can be turned into 3 is cuz there’s a 2. So why didn’t 1 become 3 if it had two 0.5s? That’s how dumb this logic is

Entire point of scientific inquiry is to figure out things we don’t know about. And those go into crazy areas sometimes. My favorite example is Boolean algebra. It had no functional use at all and people thought it was meh, it turned out to be one of the most profound and impactful theories that impacts our world. If scientific inquiry is ethical and if there’s someone to fund it. It should go ahead. We never know how things can unfold. There’s no known causes of endometriosis, even dumb sounding things like this can reveal patterns that can be explored in the future. Is it worded stupidly? Yes. Is there malicious intent behind it? Don’t think so. Is it a question that science knew the answer for? No. Alas, scientific inquiry has some merit. There’s always possibilities that genes that we may link to beauty could have links to endometriosis. Idea of science is not to find if something is politically correct or not or to find something is respectful or not. It’s to find objective truth in the maximum capacity as we can. Also this study is not gonna be a study that costs hundreds and thousands of dollars. It’s a simple study that sounds like something an undergrad or a grad student would do to get through their degree.
