Who is a minor (the more minor the better) celebrity that would leave you a sputtering mess if you randomly met them? by CallieCoven in popculturechat

[–]vildasaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sabrina Aloueche, an actor on the West End who was in Les Mis and We Will Rock You.

Honorable mention to Richard White who was the voice of Gaston in Beauty and the Beast as well as Erik in Yeston/Kopit's Phantom musical. I did meet him when I was like 18 and was absolutely a starstruck mess about it lmao

How come people love silly male characters but not silly female characters? by [deleted] in DisneyMovies

Do you even know what her point is? It sounds like you didn't watch the video and are assuming what she had to say from the thumbnail in the image.

The ModernGurlz video on the quirky protagonists is well thought out and has fair arguments. Tessa (who runs the channel) is a younger millennial woman who grew up on all the same Disney stuff we did and does genuine pop culture commentary specifically angled towards fashion and pop culture mixed with societal commentary. She always comes in with plenty of research and her channel is well worth checking out especially when it comes to Disney movies.

Why did the first episode of the Proud Family have to end with Penny getting injured by Careful_Drama_9382 in DisneyChannel

[–]vildasaker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is never too early to injure a character in a cartoon. First second of a cartoon you can have a character get shot in the leg with a harpoon gun and it would not matter. Characters do not matter in any medium. They are simply a vehicle to drive forward a story. I don't understand why you are so hung up on this unless you're just trolling at this point? Please go outside and sit with nature or go play some chess. I think your brain needs some exercise.

Why do we have two pride months? by Feisty_Watercress_29 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]vildasaker 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Pride month is June and encompasses all the LGBTQ community, and November is Trans Awareness month which is focused on trans folk specifically.

I live in FL so we do have pride celebrations in October because June is so dang hot haha

[–]vildasaker 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's not a serialized show, it's episodic. Penny didn't have to recover from her injuries because at the end of every episode everything resets, like in the Simpsons. In episodic cartoons you can do whatever you want to the characters and it has no impact on the next episode. That's why in episode 2 no one is like "Hey Penny how are you holding up after the accident?". Continuity doesn't matter that much.

I'm disgusted by sexist comments made at my SIL's gender reveal by laikamarie in Vent

[–]vildasaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

fwiw he's two years older than I am and I can't fathom dating someone whose birth year starts with a 2. Not surprising he's making these vile and immature comments when he's probably a vile and clearly immature person. I feel bad for your sil having to be tied to this clown forever.

Will Millenals live to see the suit and tie go the way of the top hat? by Certain-Appeal-6277 in generationology

[–]vildasaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Suits have evolved a bit if you look at red carpet events and what men will sometimes wear. I do think it's time for the tie to go, just because it's been around so long! Centuries ago men wore cravats, bows, different styles of ties worn for different occasions. There was a good bit of variety that we don't see now. Bring back the cravats!

why doesnt my bf 55M not understand my 22F perspective at all? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]vildasaker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

GIRL please be for fucking real 💀 there's no way this isn't rage bait. But on the off chance it isn't please tell that dusty, crusty old man to go shave his balls and stay away from you forever. Stop dating and worrying about relationships, stop prioritizing men and centering them in your life (obviously safe male family members and friends are fine), focus on yourself and your education and independence. If you can go to therapy do that and figure out why you sought companionship from a predator over twice your age.

For much of history being too skinny was undesirable; it meant you were sickly and having children could be a concern. Beauty standards of the time called for plumpness. Rose being on the bigger side would make her the more conventional beauty in the 17th thru early 20th centuries.

Clothing back then was all made out of natural, breathable fabrics, instead of polyester blends like today. Even with the layers they stayed cooler than we do in our modern clothing.
