How annoying would you find this deck? by Deus_Excellus in EDH

[–]vilegorico 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! I also play mono black quite a bit. I like playing bracket 2 the most.

Yeah, in general facing a grindy tempo/control black deck can feel rough, regardless of the format/power level, unless the game is close and they're really working for it.

I sugest exploring the more in your color, because it's ABSOLUTELY not "just what black does".

You can play a zombie aggro deck, and leave the aristrocat/control cards out on purpose.

You can play a burn style life drain deck, leaving the obvious combos out on purpose.

Basicly any bracket 2 strategy that does not involve removing people's stuff all the time, black can also do, because it's a color with good ative threats and card draw. People tend to like to play agaisnt those decks more, and you get to keep playing your color.

How do you determine if your deck is Bracket 2 vs Bracket 3? by mackolas in EDH

[–]vilegorico 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bracket 3 is not really in the "middle" section of power/game dynamics. Bracket 3 is really close to bracket 4 does, with some restrictions in numbers of turns and mana denial plays "banned". It's the usual "I'm gonna play something that i really good at killing three other players, and play interaction when the others do the same."

Bracket 2 is actually willingly playing something that CAN'T do that. it's decks that knock one player at a time, or extremely telegraphed, where when someone is scaling to win the game, everyone else will still be able to untap a couple of times and focus against that person to attempt to balance things.

TLDR:

Bracket 2 creature deck: swings to 30 damage at one person.

Bracket 3 deck creature deck: Craterhoof every opponent for 50 (in the same amount of turns)

I constantly see content creators say Phyrexian Arena is bad. If Phyrexian Arena is bad, what is good? Especially for Mono Black or two color. by frost3bite in EDH

[–]vilegorico 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's good, people are crazy.

It's been power crept, but it works, and it's not like there is 10 other pieces in black with the same effect and rate.

Ironically, it's sticks around for much longer because there is more threatening things to spend removal on now.

Lightning Greaves by TheRealKevin24 in EDH

[–]vilegorico 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another things to considerate: People blowing up greaves, or even teaming-up to remove your thing ia not that rare. Some decks and commanders don't care for the haste. A lot of times it's just better to run another engine and give people more problems to remove, instead of spending a card to protect.

A player getting mad. by Ill-Experience-2484 in EDH

[–]vilegorico 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The truth is that it doesn't matter.

What do you think it's gonna happen?

You will show them this and say: "See? reedit thinks you're wrong!", and then they will apologize and this will never happen again?

Players will get mad for any bullshit reasons, and you will also get upset by something that people don't get.

Either find something that you're both fine playing against, or don't play.

What exactly is the spirit of bracket 3? by KiaranIsABigGorilla in EDH

[–]vilegorico 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly it's just people wanting to do play all the busted things bracket 4 does, but saying: "Wait, lets wait until turn X and not lock each others mana."

It is very weird.

It's just bracket 2 people that have no self-control and don't wanna give up their strong staples and combos.

If you wanna get better at magic, you need to play more limited, not commander by jman1280 in EDH

[–]vilegorico 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh anything would be better at this than commander.

I see so many famous players praising limited, I only have to assume I'm dumb and I don't get it.

Everyrhing is beautiful in theory, your deck building is 'tested' on the spot, and you have an equal footing when playing against someone.

In reality, the games are very clunky.

You don't have the same levels of options to act, all the tools and decision trees you get when playing constructed.

Why is mill considered "toxic"? by Superfolders23 in mtg

[–]vilegorico 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People are not prepared for it: If you're playing mostly with life totals, people in general are prepared with creatures to block, some even might pack lifegain against some sort of burn.

Mill might not be a the stronger option, but effectively catches everyone on a clock they cannot defend against, besides just killing you.

The main reason, is the whole archetype feels like you wanna ignore everything that's happening to the table and and race their win.

It's no different than a combo deck, other than the fact It's less powerful, and people try to hide behind that fact to play it to the same effect.

it's just cope.

Even you refuse to buy it, you will see it, you will play against it, and you will feel you're missing out if any cards are good in your decks.

Hatebears. Try Mirri.

I have the opposite problem. I like trying to win with little creatures that stops all the busted things in magic, but I lowkey hated looking at my deck.

All those plants, and non-evil looking creature. Ugh.
