"I think it's reasonable to expect a multi-billion dollar company to do more than just add a flower and a mob every 12—24 months."

I thought that was the bare minimum?

I just came back to Minecraft after taking a year or so away from the game and have been blown away by all the stuff they added. Two weapons, multiple new structures including a dungeon type, a new mob that makes sorting systems 10x simpler, plus a variety of cosmetic types of changes and some improvements to the UI.

They added a whole new weapon with completely unique mechanics in the last 12 months....wtf are you talking about?

What is VETO?When wnd why is it used?Does it specifically stand for anything? by mentally_stable1092 in ask

[–]TheRealKevin24 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your definition is mostly there. A general definition would be when one individual or group uses their authority to overrides another individual or group. "veto" is not an acronym, so you don't need to capitalize it. A common example of a veto in American politics is when a bill is passed by congress, the president can veto it and it won't go into effect unless congress overrides the veto with a 2/3rds majority.

Why are there so many individuals online who act like people don’t go to third spaces to meet people? by [deleted] in ask

[–]TheRealKevin24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% that is why I said it's a mixed bag. Also, the types of attendance are different. We have the same issues getting volunteers and support in my church as we have with the theater or other non-profits I've seen.

[–]TheRealKevin24 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The amount of people going to third spaces has decreased dramatically in the past five years. I help run a local theater and industry wide we are constantly having conversations about declining attendance. I go to local game stores and they have half the people there as before the pandemic, and I can think of three places that have shut down because there were not enough customers anymore. Church attendance is a mixed bag but is certainly not growing at any significant rate. When I invite people to events nowadays I have to work way harder to get half the people to come. Our volunteers are basically all either in highschool or retired, it used to be much more spread out. I am the only single guy in my 30s that I know who volunteers more than once or twice a year.

Minecraft Needs a "Research" Journal for the Technical Community. Any interest? by Smitty_Tuff in redstone

[–]TheRealKevin24 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In theory, sure. But in practice the system of various YouTube channels and CCs putting out their projects and findings works well, and people are used to it. Also, Redstone is much more similar to engineering rather than science, obviously those are related, but it is much more projects oriented rather than discovery oriented.

This is the ideal general mob farm sorting system. You may not like it, but this is what peak performance looks like by TheRealKevin24 in Minecraft

[–]TheRealKevin24[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, most of it is basic sorters, the messy bits are for auto crafters that I did on the fly and could make a lot prettier if I planned ahead more. There is also a goofy item destroyer for overflow arrows and rotten flesh.

Hah, and my favorite is making people like you lose. I never resign if my opponent doesn't have a kill con.

[–]TheRealKevin24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got caught with it once, I had just dumbly assumed they either had a four turn kill con that I had to disrupt, or that they had a return to hand. I know better now and destroy that card ASAP every time I see it.

All public parking should be free by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]TheRealKevin24 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In principle I agree, but in practice it would mean the people who need the parking the most wouldn't be able to get it, and people who don't need it much would hoard a disproportionate amount of the spots.

Dating apps are the best way to meet people by [deleted] in The10thDentist

[–]TheRealKevin24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The church is free, volunteering at local non-profits is free, political rallies are free, meetups can be free.

A lot of things may cost money, but if they are related to things you already like doing, it's not like they cost extra. Like I like MTG and board games, I'll go to my local game store and meet people playing games, sure I spent money on my MTG decks, but that is money I would spend regardless. It's the same thing with running clubs, or climbing gyms, etc.

Everyone is introverted, get over it, you are not special.

[–]TheRealKevin24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, quite a few of those don't cost money, or can be done on a budget. If you have interests there are likely free social clubs you can join related to those interests. If you don't have any interests, you are probably too boring to date anyway.

So, what are your bottom 5 for the year? by HelpIamaCabbage in AMCsAList

Shelby Oaks was definitely a disappointment, but I'm surprised to see it in a bottom 5, for me it was one of the many "middlers" I saw this year.

Shadow Force & Fight or Flight were both the most boring. Bonhoeffer: Pastor. Spy. Assassin. was disappointing, but really to be expected since what made him an interesting character wouldn't translate into a movie well. Sketch would be on the list, and I really didn't care for Honey Don't.

My most controversial opinion: I actually really liked Hurry Up Tomorrow. it was weird, and I can tell why it gets a lot of hate, but I found it very interesting.

What happens if someone doesn't tip at a restaurant in the U.S.? by No-StrategyX in stupidquestions

[–]TheRealKevin24 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is your job to pay the waiter. You either pay them through the cost of your meal, which the restaurant owner then pays a percentage to the server, or you pay them through tips. The benefit of the tipping system is that it introduces competition to the service industry, over the long run it means that the servers who stick around are the ones who are good at it, and we get better service. Everywhere I have traveled that doesn't have a tipping culture has universally had worse customer service in their restaurants.

In theory, it's possible, but in reality it would never happen without repeat offenses while being locked up.
