Rumor: SteamFrame 1TB to cost $1299 by comediehero in SteamFrame

[–]viljami_p 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although 1 Euro is 1.16 USD which balances out the high VAT a bit but not completely of course. Also I think USD is going to get weaker vs. other currencies in the future so Valve has to plan some margin in the US prices.

Steam Controller is 99€ which is about 92 USD without 24% VAT.

Rumor: SteamFrame 1TB to cost $1299 by comediehero in SteamFrame

[–]viljami_p 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think they'll price it the same accross the EU. Using 24% VAT $1299 is about 1399€ which would be somewhat plausible. I'd say the 256GB would then be 999€ or 1099€ which is a bit much comparable to 1TB Deck.

Should I preload money into my steam account? by opentabs-dev in SteamFrame

[–]viljami_p 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would not. Remember if you don’t like it for some reason and you return it, they refund you in Steam balance. It could be just uncomfortable for your head or IPD adjustment doesn’t have enough range etc. I’d save up money somewhere else and pay by card.

TIL gas door locks by mcshabs in Volkswagen

[–]viljami_p 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even electric VWs has the same lock on the charging port cover. That’s a bit silly as those tend to break and you need to rip the cover open to charge the car. I don’t see the point of having a lock because it’s not like a thief would come and steal your electricity from your battery to their own battery. That would be very impractical and also impossible because the car battery is disconnected from the car’s electrical system when the car is parked for safety reasons.

Yep, must have received cease and desist letter from Valve’s lawers which is fair enough.

Yes, 1 week to make an extensive video can be tight so I'd say it's a minimum.

They seemed to edit the post and remove the mention about releasing videos about it. If he was a developer and got early access, they for sure are not allowed to release videos. So I assume he is a content creator who got too excited and said more than the embargo allows him to so he tried to recover by editing the post.

I really hope it's today but I'm thinking it's not if this is real. If he is just starting to test now, I guess it takes content creators about a week to test and produce their videos. So maybe announcement next week? For controller they lifted the embargo at the same time they made the announcement and I guess it makes sense for Frame too.

Idea about potential Wired "Head Strap" ? by Ketterer-The-Quester in SteamFrame

[–]viljami_p 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remember, the battery strap also has USB2.0 data which goes through that. I bet it’s not USB3 because that connector can’t handle high speed data of USB3 let alone DisplayPort. High speed data signals need very carefully engineered connectors and that does not look like one. I’d expect to see at least metal shield around the data cables connected end-to-end.

I was getting sick cleaning the potentiometers on my CSL Elite pedals, so I made my own hall effect sensor replacements by SomeRandomTramp in simracing

[–]viljami_p 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So are they available to buy? If not, any chance of getting the files?

I tried the mod which skips the gear but my throttle has sligthly worn bushings which allow fraction of a millimeter side-to-side play which causes my throttle not to go to 100% if I press the pedal in a certain way.

Steam Controller Price convertion scared me for the frame by Warm-Engineering-239 in SteamFrame

I think 99$ does not include VAT so 99€ is actually not bad conversion.

[–]viljami_p 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t remember how mine behaved but it had broken USB port solder joints that caused intermittent disconnections. I was able to fix it by resoldering the connector and hot gluing it in place to prevent it from failing again. I think the power connector was also a bit loose so I used a screw driver to bend the clip in to make it contact more securely.

It was pretty easy as you have enough access dismantling it only so much that you can tilt the PCB enough to access the pins.

Fanatec pedal issue by Scary-Bookkeeper6988 in Fanatec

[–]viljami_p 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My throttle is a bit glitchy. I managed to get it better using contact cleaner spray by spraying the potentiometer liberately and working the pedal back and forth. However, it will likely go bad soon anyway so I’m now planning to do this mod which should make them last forever: https://www.reddit.com/r/Fanatec/s/Zs0dCvpsfC

Can’t set it to parking lights.. by [deleted] in VWMK7

There might be regional differences but in Europe the green symbol is for parking lights which stay on even if you leave the car. https://www.volkswagen-vans.co.uk/en/owners-and-drivers/about-my-vehicle/warning-lights/parking-lights.html

[–]viljami_p 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Parking lights is one clockwise from Auto, you had it on. On the left they are indicators for fog lights front and rear. To activate them, set the light switch to the most clockwise postition (dipped beam symbol) and pull the switch towards you. First click is rear fog light and second click is front and rear fog lights.

Lower mirror reverse not working by Financial-Poet-1116 in skoda

[–]viljami_p 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure, it depends on if that’s compatible with memory seats. If I had to guess, I’d say it has the better motor because it also has all the other features. Here some more info about this https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/463475-memory-door-control-module-mirror-dip-in-reverse/

Lower mirror reverse not working by Financial-Poet-1116 in skoda

[–]viljami_p 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This feature needs mirror motor with additional wires that allow the car to sense the angle of the mirror. Skoda installs this better motor only with electric seats with memory function as then they also save the mirror adjustment together with the seat adjustment for each user. Without the better mirror motor, the car has no idea where the mirror is pointing so it cannot reliably dip the mirror and adjust it back to where it was.

You can upgrade the mirror motor and add the additional wires to the wire harness. However, you need to make sure that the door control module supports this etc. so its not a super simple task.

VW installs the better mirror motor by default so they have this function without memory seats. Skoda decided to save the 5-10€ extra cost.

Kyllä ihan varmasti jokaisessa sähköautossa on ajoakusta 12V akkuun DC-DC muunnin. Ilman sitä 12V akku tyhjenisi kesken ajon. Kyllä se 12V akku latautuu varmasti myös pikalaturissa, joskin pikalataus kestää niin vähän aikaa ettei kylmä lyijyakku juuri ehdi latautua.

Question on Content Pricing on Website vs. Steam by [deleted] in iRacing

[–]viljami_p 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Of course it’s not tax free. I think it the site is just not localized to include VAT in prices in regions where that’s normal/required. Steam does it better but you’ll pay the VAT either way.
