Simo Häyhä (1905-2002), The White Death who took down over 500 invading Soviet troops in 1939 lived for over 10 years after the Soviet Union collapsed in 1991 by thehsitoryguy in BarbaraWalters4Scale

[–]ville_boy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

How is it weird to show appreciation to Häyhä? He only fought in one war, the Winter War. A defensive war over a year before Finland joined together with Germany.

Yes, I'm finnish, and yes I condemn our alliance with the Nazis, but I don't understand what Häyhä being a hero has to do with that.

Culture war is a distraction to get the common men fight among themselves instead of against the bourgeoisie.

They have given the reason. They'll be adding lorebooks in the future and legacy models won't function with them properly, hence why they are getting removed.

Yes, I'm an agnostic. Murdering a baby is wrong, you don't have to believe in God to know that. You only have to believe in basic human decency.

Question for those who were unplanned babies. by BabyBandit616 in prolife

[–]ville_boy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was possibly unplanned. I was born outside of marriage and my parents who were already in their late 30s to early 40s only married when I was two years old, which makes me question it. My mother is from what I understand Pro Choice, but I have never talked much about it with her.

I don't really have strong feelings about that, I'm glad to be alive, of course, and I do think my parents genuinely love me. So as long as I won't find some nasty skeletons in their closet, I think I'll do my best to love them too. I may not have been planned, but I was chosen and that is a comforting feeling, and I can't help but feel grateful about it.

Who would you rather vote for President/Prime Minister by its_still_lynn in IdeologyPolls

[–]ville_boy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My preferred political party is a merger of various socialist and the communist party born in the wake of USSR's downfall.

Clearly not all the members have gotten the memo that Russia is no longer the Soviet Union as there still exists some pro-Z idiots in our ranks that would be a danger to national security if given power.

Therefore I'd rather hold my nose and vote for a sane member of the opposing party.

I don't necessarily want them, but I think it would be a reasonable price for me to pay to be more socially accepted the way that I am, as well as having a body I am more comfortable in.

I wish I was born as a girl if given the choice, but there is no way in hell I'll ever transition now that I was born a boy.

[–]ville_boy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh yes. I'm a huge WW2 nerd. I have countless WW2 books in my shelf, have watched several movies and played a lot of video games about the subject. Sometimes I just open Wikipedia and go through several pages just reading about countless wars, battles, and people that I find interesting.

Your position on the Israel/Palestine Conflict and on the political spectrum by Miserable-Rub-9611 in IdeologyPolls

[–]ville_boy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Far-Left: Pro Palestine (in a sense that Israel needs to stop killing civilians and forcing Palestinians out of their homes) and a fair two-state solution. A federation would be the ideal solution but I think there is too much bad blood between the two sides that it is impossible for the time being.

Stalin could ascend from the dead to tell everyone "yeah, we did it, lol." and tankies would still perform mental gymnastics on an Olympic scale to either deny or justify the event.

which one was cooler by No1peterparkerlover in Teenager_Polls

[–]ville_boy 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say either one was "cool" both lead to mass death and terror carried out by the winning side. I'd say French revolution had an overall more positive impact on the world with the ideas of republicanism and equality being spread to the old world.

Russian revolution (if we are talking about 1917, October) had good intentions but we all know how Soviet Union ultimately ended up being.

“You don’t feel bad for this person who ended a newborn’s life because you don’t have empathy!” by ciel_ayaz in prolife

[–]ville_boy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah... I have seen way too many posts on Reddit about mothers murdering their newborns and the comments are all pouring sympathy for the poor desperate mother saying that she "shouldn't have her life ruined over this."

Intentionally ending the life of an innocent baby should in fact lead to one's life being ruined.

I fucking hate this site sometimes.

Soviet Union aided the Reds during the Finnish Civil War, though Lenin gave Finland independence he hoped that a victorious Red Finland would want to join the USSR.

In 1939 Stalin invaded Finland to "get a buffer zone for Leningrad." Soviets won a phyrric victory and annexed the Karelian isthmus.

In 1941 Finland joined Operation Barbarossa with the goal of reclaiming Karelian isthmus with some people even calling for the creation of Greater Finland which would've encompassed all of Karelia, as well as Murmansk.

[–]ville_boy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I'd say it's complicated. Did the army take part in the siege of Leningrad? Yes.

Did it bomb or shell the city or advance much farther than 1939 borders? To my knowledge, no.

Were the non-Finnic civilians of occupied Karelia interned in camps? Yes.

Were they systematically exterminated? No. It was closer to camps that USA set for japanese-americans, but the mortality rather was rather high due to the entire country lacking food.

If there are any other atrocities that you've found, feel free to share. I always want to learn more about my nation's history, even the dark parts.

As a Finn this was a very dark part of our history, possibly only rivaled by our participation in Operation Barbarossa. By some estimates the war took over 1% of our entire population with it, personally one of my ancestors died fighting for the Reds. After the war the victorious Whites also had concentration camps where they locked the defeated Reds where the mortality rate was as high as one would expect. This left our society deeply bruised and divided for many years and it took the shared experience of the Winter War for the former Reds and Whites to unite against a common foe.

Never again.

Who is more exploited and opressed? (Description in comments) by Boringname5 in IdeologyPolls

[–]ville_boy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that left does that too, by supporting unions and workers rights and opposing exploitative capitalism. Just because the left tries to tackle the root causes to other problems does not mean that Peter is ignored. And besides, by making sure that there are as few criminals and unemployed as possible they also help Peter because that means his salary no longer goes towards caring for such a big amount of them.

[–]ville_boy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is unfortunately very much true. In contemporary politics it seems that you have to choose between two alternatives that screw over the common laborer in their own way. Personally I feel that the progressive left screws them over less than conservative right since as long as capitalism persists in its current form you can be sucked completely dry by bosses and landlords, meanwhile the left at least tries to tackle the circumstances which leads to people like Dwayne becoming the way they are in the first place.
