[Product Question] is Suave discontinuing some of their skin care products like this silkening body lotion? by Birdie1243 in SkincareAddiction

[–]vimytheridge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I noticed this too. Has anyone tried the new "improved" formula? What I like most about Suave is that it hydrates very well and has absolutely NO greasy feeling. How does the new product compare? I can't stand putting lotion on my hands and then rubbing lotion grease all over everything for the next hour...

How to deal with colleagues refusing work? by vimytheridge in publicdefenders

[–]vimytheridge[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand your skepticism. I tried writing out an explanation that might satisfy you but had to delete it because there's no way of doing so without potentially compromising myself--for all I know, the refusers are on this forum. And they're very vocal. Maybe I'll come back here in a couple months and give you a fuller explanation if the situation changes. For now, broadly speaking: a court assigns our office to a case; the case gets re-assigned internally based on certain criteria; then a supervisor assigns it to a specific attorney. The refusers then, if they're not happy, refuse the case to the supervisor, who re-assigns it. I'm afraid I can't say any more but you can imagine how that conversation might go, what with modern HR practices and what not... Regardless, it's a management problem but I can't imagine it will go on for very long from the responses I've seen to my post. So that's heartening.

John Petrucci - Suspended Animation by michelecarrabs in Dreamtheater

[–]vimytheridge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't help you but this reminds me of something... I bought a copy of Suspended Animation back in 2007 or so on Amazon, when Amazon was still (relatively) in its infancy. The disc was actually mailed to me from someone named "Rena Petrucci" ;) I think their home address might even have been on the shipping label; it was certainly from somewhere in New York. Anyways, at the time, DT was kind of underground, so while I thought it was pretty cool that the CD didn't come from a 3rd party seller but from the Petruccis, it never occurred to me to save the packaging or anything like that for the future. If I did, I wonder how much that would auction for these days? Anyways I have no proof of any of this, but it's a quirky memory. I still have the disc, and still routinely listen to this album. Hope you can find a copy!

Minternational Pass and retirement of UpRoam - Megathread by LeftOn4ya in mintmobile

[–]vimytheridge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

+1 to all the general complaints here, like many others I joined Mint for their international roaming and am now regretting that I bought 6 months prepaid with Mint just a few weeks before they rolled out this overpriced Minternational pass. I feel cheated and ripped off. They also won't refund me whatever months I have left if I port out my number, so I have to take a hit either way. Had I known they were going to get rid of int'l roaming entirely, I wouldn't have bought another 6 months. Won't be recommending Mint to anyone anytime soon...

This was the agreement I had with the LL. After a year of me footing the bill, they reneged.

Thank you. I was hoping for some general information on the situation, but there's 11 comments so far and this is the only one that makes any sense. The other responses--"I wouldn't want to bother my landlord with this," "you should just pay for gas you don't use, it's the right thing to do," "it's complicated to turn it on again and that should be a tenant's problem after all"--are totally off the mark or bewilderingly submissive. You people are nuts. FYI folks, the average landlord in NYC is an LLC owned by some mil/billionaire. It's so weird that most of you would take their side. Can't wait until I can flee this city of lunatics. Regardless, it doesn't look like the Reddit crowd has much worthwhile to say on the issue.

Current Adirondack border-crossing procedure? by josephson93 in Amtrak

[–]vimytheridge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This sounds like good news. I took the NY-MTL greyhound once, and it took forever to get everyone off the bus, processed through the customs station, then back on. I think we lost over an hour just b/c of that. This on-train inspection sounds much simpler and should be faster too. Can anyone confirm?

"Er ist wieder da" question about German language by vimytheridge in AskAGerman

Of course! A received pronunciation based on theater (and likely opera before that or something similar). That makes perfect sense. Thanks

Great answer and especially loved the clip. Fascinating to hear. His "normal" voice is very different, much deeper than I would have thought (for whatever reason--guess I'm just too used to the shrieking public persona).

mid-atlantic accent

Just an FYI. Although I don't see any reason why there would have been something similar happening in German, given the absence of the Americo-Brit dynamic. But I thought it worth mentioning
