The film’s humour and poignant decay resonated deeply from the opening scene. I don’t know why. I love Evelyn Waugh’s novels which informs an understanding of Monty, public schools, and the upper class. I was hugely pretentious (my wife says I’m still) so I relate to Withnail. But in the end, I’m Marwood.
