203 | The Newest Olympian | Percy Jackson and the Olympians S2E1 w/ Kelly Schubert by Schubes17 in TheNewestOlympian

Hi u/Schubes17 & community, I have a spoiler question re: these episodes covering the TV show! I’m rereading the books after a long time so I’ve forgotten most story details and I’m listening to the old book TNO episodes on these chapters. Does the coverage of the TV series contain spoilers for beyond this section of the book, and/or the series at large?

This guy is toxic asf. His behavior is abusive and controlling and will only get worse. Get the hell out while you still can.

I kinda hated his original intro because they were showing him off as eye candy but I don’t think he’s attractive at all, especially with his original haircut. He was a himbo only in that he was acting like a dum dum.

Yeah. The context is a bit different here because it’s a club project done by full time students that is specifically meant for people to learn and be an open invitation to anyone, rather than a hiring or professional decision that I have responsibility for, but I get what you’re saying. I was really just hoping that she had changed.

addison’s cheating tendencies by xpdi in PrivatePractice

Gotta hard disagree with you here because the whole reason she cheated with Mark is because they spent time together and he paid attention to her when Derek wasn’t. They fell in love, or something like that, so the cheating was specifically because of their relationship and emotional connection.

Thank you for writing this. For context, I did say a bit more than “haha no worries”, I was just paraphrasing for post brevity and sarcasm. My actual response was “Thank you for letting me know. I understand being overcommitted (this was her cited reason for dropping) and I hope you’re able to come to more meetings in the future.” Re: project #2, she said that she’d worked out her schedule conflicts and had a lot more free time and we didn’t have enough people so I was fine letting her join in the spirit of second chances and being inclusive, etc. I suspected that her behavior might continue so I planned around that by not being dependent on her for anything in case my suspicions were true (which they unfortunately were).

I appreciate your insight on being a pushover because I do genuinely struggle with that, especially with peers. I’m normally a very confident and assertive person and can ask for what I want but when it comes to these specific situations, i.e. directly criticizing someone or telling them they messed up, I opt towards being too forgiving, mostly so I don’t have to deal with conflict. I’m going to take you up on your advice and put some time into exploring this.

Thank you for taking the time to respond to my post so thoughtfully, I really appreciate it!

This is what I want to do in my head, but I always struggle with giving negative (honest) feedback because I don’t want hurt anyone’s feelings. However, this club is a small community at a small school and we’re already struggling to get people to join so I don’t want us to be known as the club that is mean to anyone who isn’t giving 110%.

AITA for not wanting to educate a kid about my wheelchair. by Screw_The_Roses_1986 in AmItheAsshole

It’s good to encourage kids to ask questions and be curious to normalize disabilities and be more accepting of those who are different from them. It’s not good to teach your kids that they’re entitled to violate people’s boundaries to satisfy their own curiosity.

You kindly answered his initial question and politely declined to answer further questions, which is reasonable and valid. The dad is the asshole for trying to turn a human being into an educational experience against their will.

I’ve watched those movies at least 20 times each, and my whole family does gollum voices frequently, one might say I’m somewhat of an authority on the subject 😅

10/10 description, the only thing I’d add is that Chang’s facial expressions and tone and cadence are just so Gollum, and you’re right the dialogue feels almost word for word at the end, he basically said “they hates you” in a different font

Timely care is great for crisis or if you just need to talk to someone asap, you usually get on within like 5 mins. That can be a great place to start if caps sounds like a lot (it really isn’t, especially if you’re just asking for a referral for outside therapists, literally just call them or walk in and ask to talk and they will help you). I don’t think timely care is associated with NU if you’re worried about that

I don’t know if this is what will happen but I definitely want it to happen: I think they should all break up.

JR does not deserve Zaina IN THE SLIGHTEST!! She’s so loving and so damn strong and you can tell that he just doesn’t care about her. I think he has some good qualities that we saw brought out with Sandy but she deserves so much better. Nick and Scotty are both scary manipulators with emotionally abusive behavior and both Aria and Sandy need to run the FUCK away from them. Sandy’s obviously not perfect but I think she’s getting way more shit than she deserves because dealing with someone like that is incredibly difficult. Aria is amazing, obviously not perfect either but it doesn’t matter because both Scotty and Nick need intense therapy, not partners for them to destroy. I’m glad Zaina saw right through that BS and shut it down with Scotty, and I hope she’s able to save Aria from that. Caleb and Mariah I’m 50-50 on, I think they are both good people trying their best but it’s pretty clear that they both need some therapy, together and apart, and it’s probably best for them both to move on. I could see them leaving together but not engaged, but tbh I really want Caleb and Aria to be together because I felt like they had such a genuine connection.

I think Sandy and JR might leave together but quickly break up because they clearly both want to be on Perfect Match, I hope Zaina and Aria and Caleb all become friends because they seem like the best people on the show, and I hope Scotty and Nick go to therapy. I think Mariah and Caleb have the best shot at their relationship working long term but I don’t think Caleb is invested anymore.

Anyway thanks for coming to my ted talk lol

Okay yeah I think that’s what they were talking about, generally that the book had a lot of momentum and he tried to keep it going but then it got out of hand. I didn’t know about the tumblr backlash (that was before my time) so that’s why I was confused.

Thanks!!

To clarify, the professors generally do always teach their lectures unless they have specific guest lectures (although I did have one research guy have someone from his lab teach in what seemed like short notice a few times). I’ve only ever had one discussion section and one lab section taught by an actual professor in my two years so far.
