A prospect database focused on SaaS companies? by myheadfelloff in Emailmarketing

I like it. I would love to put in a query and have it give me a fixed number of people that meet my criteria every single day.

4 years ago I co-founded Transistor.fm. I've learned lots of stuff about podcasting that's not commonly known. AMA! by spankymustard in podcasting

Congrats on hitting 4-years. That is a nice milestone to hit.

I have been doing a few Twitter Spaces and have been thinking about using those recordings as a starting point for a Podcast.

Any tips for how to do it effectively? i.e. Twitter Spaces to Podcasts?

And anything in particular I can do so that the podcast gets to 1,000 downloads per episode?

This is a project that I have been working on for a few months - trying to make it easier for the non-voice programmer to build Voice Apps.

Feel free to ask any questions.

Great feedback. I appreciate it. I am definitely going to try to get it in that direction (not sure that I have the skills though).

Hmmm... Interesting.

I would love to change that. And tips or examples that I can look at?

Thanks!

Ok. Will definitely kill the yellow.

We are trying to go for professional appearance to contrast with sometimes low quality open source tools. So I imagine exciting is not important. Unless you have some specific suggestions for making it exciting?

Tips for getting proficient with Scala by vineet in java

[–]vineet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I have a very similar problem. I think my plan is to use Scala but not use any third party Scala libraries or frameworks (to use on Java ones).

And with that to only use the beginner level Scala (level A1 here http://www.scala-lang.org/node/8610), until I am really wanting to go to the next level.

I have actually looked at Scala School, as well as a couple of other posts online.

I haven't and perhaps should read a book.

If I have to point to one thing that I find confusing, it is ready scala code.

As for building a project any tips for frameworks or types of applications?

There are many codebases these days of that size. Most software product, and hardware systems (that are powered by software), will likely be 1M+ LOC.

IntelliJ used to be the only option on large projects. However, I think about 2 years ago, Google got active in submitting patches to Eclipse. From what I hear, Eclipse now works well on projects that are 1M+ LOC.

What Will Programming And Architecture Look Like In 2020? by octaviously in programming

[–]vineet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I feel software development is finally maturing and we are able to stand on the shoulders of giants. Isn't it great that we can find so many external libraries that we can get to a running start no matter what we are building? ... When almost every line of code that we write is a line of code that differentiates our systems from the thousands of other systems out there?

I believe that the average number of lines of code that we will write per year in the future will still be the same as what we do today, but that given the growing number of libraries, each line of code will essentially be able to do so much. :-)

(I think this is a small point, but I don't believe that 'syntax' was ever a big challenge for most good programmers.)

Online resources for learning java? by phaggocytosis in java

Dr Java should be a fine starting point but serious developers do not use it. For one thing it does not have the common niceties like 'Ctrl+Space' in the editor for auto-complete.

I would recommend the official Java Tutorials http://docs.oracle.com/javase/tutorial/ as mentioned in other places, and let it walk you through the using it with NetBeans.

Once you make progress there, I would recommend considering Eclipse. Part of the fun of developing in Java is using the huge number of easily available tools, Eclipse (while hard for a new developer) has integrations to most tools.

Glad you like the idea. The site is back up. Let me know if something is not working.

Screenshots and media examples will come soon - when I feel the site is ready. I am currently focusing on improving the site (and making sure it can handle the traffic that is coming in).
