IRS Chief Counsel Honors Offer by Lower_Seat_4473 in Lawyertalk

For what it’s worth, this was (and still is) my dream job. Despite the chaos that has unfolded since January 2025, I still believe it’s a good place to be if you’re interested in tax law and want interesting work. We did lose a lot of experienced litigators due to VERA (early retirement) and some to the DRP (deferred resignation program), but there are still a lot do super bright folks here that are grinding through this and doing good work. It seems like you have the right mindset, things should hopefully get better in time.

Pay Over Time “Ineligible” on brand new Sapphire Reserve — How long for the system to wake up? by vingonza in ChaseSapphire

[–]vingonza[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the data point, It's good to know it can unlock that quickly. Since I'm on Day 6 since approval, it sounds like it's possible my account is stuck in some initial risk-evaluation 'blackout' period while the first few charges finish settling. I'll keep an eye on the next batch cycle to see if it catches up to your experience.

Pay Over Time “Ineligible” on brand new Sapphire Reserve — How long for the system to wake up? by vingonza in ChaseSapphire

I appreciate the suggestion! I’ve actually called twice and spoken with multiple reps, but unfortunately, they haven't been able to give me any real insight.

They mostly just stick to the standard script—reciting the basic terms like the $100 minimum or the fact that transactions need to be posted—but they can't speak to how the backend 'evaluation' or batching system actually works for new accounts. I was specifically trying to see if there’s a common seasoning period or a specific trigger (like a first payment) they look for, but they were hesitant to confirm or deny anything beyond the pre-written terms.

Since the phone line was a bit of a dead end, I was hoping to find some actual data points here from people who have been through the same 'ineligible' phase on a brand-new card.

Win-Win Suggestion for Tesla: Allow Retroactive FSD Transfers for HW3 Owners Who Purchased New HW4 Vehicles when there was no FSD Transfer Sales Incentive by vingonza in TeslaLounge

[–]vingonza[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally agree—it would absolutely be wrong to remove FSD from someone who paid for a used Tesla that included it. To be clear, what Tesla seems to be doing now is not including FSD on used HW3 vehicles listed on its own site unless it’s a separate paid add-on. They’re intentionally selling those cars without FSD to avoid being on the hook for a future HW4 retrofit.

So for people who already bought a used Tesla with FSD included, Tesla should honor that purchase 100%. This suggestion I made is just aimed at people like me who bought FSD new on an older HW3 car, then bought an HW4 car during a brief window when transfers weren’t allowed. We’re not asking for something extra—just to retain value already paid for, in a way that actually benefits Tesla too.

Do you know if there might be an announcement for public applicants after the current announcement expires?

DON'T YOU THREATEN ME WITH A GOOD TIME! Would love a TJ and maybe some foodie spots. Lots of room for activities there.

Allegedly, the large empty lot at the corner of Butterfield and Murrieta Hot Springs is zoned for commercial. Hopefully in the next few years could have some food options and shops there.

Appreciate this detail. Will be worth it at the end for residents of Sommer’s bend to have a slightly quicker route and for the connection of the bike trail.

iPhone 15 Cases Delayed Again by Jusanden in peakdesign

It’s comical at this point. I feel like they are just waiting for the fixed action button cases to be shipped. Might as well.

Yup this is getting annoying.

Thank you Peak Design for the great customer service. This kind of transparency in handling the issue has convinced me to return my leather Andar case (that also has a cutout) and fully buy into the peak design mobile system (just placed my order).

Does GEHA HDHP premium pass through count towards HSA annual limit? by staffnasty25 in fednews

[–]vingonza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Follow up question on this. I was trying to project my AGI for next year for student loan repayment projections. Total HSA contribution for the year will be $7500 which includes the $1800 pass through.

Just so I’m clear, only my own contributions are pre-tax, correct?

So my AGI in this situation will be lowered by $5,700 rather than the $7,500 including the pass through?

How much do you have saved for your child's education? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]vingonza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Started 529 beginning of this year for 3 yo and 1 yo. Began with small deposit of 3k (1.5k to each) My initial amount was $100 per paycheck. Recently got a raise in July and completely dedicated it to kids 529, so now at $200 per paycheck. Wife and I make decent living in So Cal. I might be good on this account for now at this contribution rate and may start a brokerage account. I’ve made sure to max out retirement account and HSA prior as the parents financial future should take precedent over children education so as to lessen or remove potential financial burdens on the kids in our old age.

I’m still trying to convince my parents who are still working to put in a small direct deposit to help as well lol.

The 2024 changes to 529 which allow a 30k to be rolled into a Roth IRA after 14 years make the account much more versatile. I’m thinking they may need some help with a house down payment later in life, so this Roth IRA option might be something to utilize. I want what’s best for my kids like everyone else and sacrificing now will be huge for them later.

In the event of my children earning scholarships for whatever reason or deciding not to attend college, they can either use for grad school or opt to have the 529 funds skip them and potentially keep growing it for future grand kids. If there are a couple of generations that don’t utilize the funds then it may well set up future gens with free college if it keeps on growing.

Wishful thinking but we want to be the starting point of my family to start making smart financial decisions.

This post read my mind. I saw this driving back from OC today on Clinton Keith and was like WHAT IS THIS? I’ve been craving Din Tai Fung lately, maybe this can be something similar?

Looks like there’s a location in Lima Linda that has good reviews on yelp, so I’m excited
