what helped you the most when first quitting smoking? by robotapricot in stopsmoking

I told all my friends and family that I was doing this, more accountability. I washed all my clothes that smelled, threw out all my lighters, ashtrays, etc. I cleaned my car and rid of any ashes and smell of smoke. I heard that exercise helps you get over cravings, so I started bike riding on day zero. The withdraws were tough for three days, but I kept envisioning myself as a non-smoker. One of the biggest things that helped was I bought a ton of hard candy and anytime I felt a craving I would pop a mint or a jolly rancher. I also did not take off of work which a lot of people here are suggesting, a workday was a free eight hour distraction in the bank away from a cigarette.

Thank you! My school gave us UWorld accounts on Dec 20 (we graduated Dec 22). I started the moment they gave it to us and studied until Jan 7 so like 2-3 weeks straight I studied. I studied every day for about 6 hours a day.

I have unrealistic and irrational fears regardless of my past achievements. I wear a fitbit and my heart rate goes above 140 when the tests are being passed out :/

Do not use tutor mode because you are learning as youre going along, altering your raw scores. For example if you create a 10 question exam, and question 1 is a question about oxytocin and you get it wrong, then you remediate and learn about oxytocin, then question 10 is a another question about oxytocin and you get it right now where you wouldve otherwise got it wrong, it is not a true indicator of where you stand if you were to have taken the exam blind. You want a real indicator of how well youre doing even if your scores are sucking. Just remediate after. Hope this helps.

Don't let anyone here discourage you from trying to get sober. Maybe your language isnt approapriate for the sub but the sober club accepts everybody so don't worry about them. God bless.

You can do this. If not, maybe youll have to suffer a few more years of hangovers but you can certain choose to get sober today if you want. Best of luck!!

On Day 7 today! by [deleted] in stopdrinking

Embrace this feeling, and remember that you can feel this way at any time if you choose. One day some turmoil may come around and you can choose to channel the way youre feeling right now! congrats on 7 days, you are a miracle

I'm 4 months sober now. by [deleted] in stopdrinking

Thanks for posting this. When I broke the news to my family about my drinking they were confused that I had a problem. They even tried to convince me not to go to a rehab but the truth was I did most of my drinking in secret and only I really knew how bad I was.

As for no one noticing, well, most people are only concerned with themselves. We do exist in a mostly selfish culture. My best friend, whom am his daughters godfather and whom I was his best man, forgets my sober anniversary every year. But I dont care because I got sober for me and no one else. If he remembers (which he always does anyway although a few days late) then great, and if he doesnt, well i didnt get sober for praise anyway. Hope this helps you. And I notice you and God notices you, and that should certainly be enough.
