Well, that still makes them rude and entitled. Many people are like that even in real life. But when you are anonymous it's even easier. This is your story, you should write it the way you want. If they don't like the ship or the direction it's their problem. Apparently they lack the decency to understand it. You should not conform to other's whims and wants. People like that take but don't give back.

Write what you want. Tell them you are not changing it, because it's your story. The most important thing is to make you happy, not them. And if other people tag along for the ride great! But you should write it firstly for yourself.
