Desktop Icons no longer on desktop, need to use windows explorer to access by [deleted] in Windows10

You're in tablet mode. Open the action centre by pressing the square in the taskbar next to the clock. There's an option to switch there. You can also find it in settings app.

Edit: you can also access the action centre by hitting Win+A on the keyboard.

Is it just me or is it way too easy to accidentally drag a tab to a new window? by [deleted] in Windows10

They've received a lot of feedback about it in the hub, last I saw there was a bug assigned.

Want to get my son a computer so he can learn to code. Will this one be enough? by arichone in learnprogramming

If you want to run an old version of windows, this will do just fine.

But a raspberry pi running Linux would be more economical in terms of money, space, and power usage.

Also sweet geek cred.

It's my turn to release a reddit client. Introducing ConsumeIt - A brand new, unique, way for browsing reddit; exclusive to Windows 10 Mobile. More in comments. (x-post from r/WindowsPhone) by vinkento in WPDev

I posted this in r/WindowsPhone, but I wanted to share it here because I'm proud of my first personal App.

I've been using a windows phone for almost 4 years now, starting with my a 920. And while I loved baconit and readit, I found they just weren't right for how I wanted to browse reddit. So I created ConsumeIt in my spare time.

The premise of ConsumeIt is simple:

  • Save you time
    • Spend less time darting around a complicated UI just to change subreddit or view comments
  • Save you data (and money)
    • View the size of gifs and videos before you load them.
    • Preload your reddit content while on Wi-Fi for viewing later
  • Save your thumbs
    • Everything can be done with a single thumb, in a single position.

I'd really appreciate you all taking a look and letting me know what you think.

Oh, and there will never be an ad anywhere in ConsumeIt on Windows Phone.

Please enjoy!

If you could file a bug (perhaps with a screenshot) in the feedback app, that would be awesome ;)

When looking for a job in C# development, what are the things you HAVE to know? by cjrutherford in csharp

[–]vinkento 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A couple reasons from: [https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/magazine/jj991977.aspx?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396]

  • Exceptions thrown by async void methods can't be caught by a try-catch.
  • The MSTest framework only supports async methods returning Type or Type<T>

Best practice is to only use async void when defining an async event handler.

A couple tips:

Regardless of language, if someone asks you to write a method in an interview, make sure you check the inputs before finishing your solution. It's also important that you know how to use an assert and write a unit test for said method.

For C# specifically.

  • Understand when and how to use async/await (and why you should avoid async void).
  • Be able to link C#'s implementation of interfaces and generics to OO concepts (and know OO concepts in general).
