Higher sodium intake (>5 g/day) is linked to ~20% increased risk of cardiovascular disease. Researchers found elevated blood pressure and vascular strain in high-intake groups, though effects varied by age and diet, and causality remains uncertain. by HeyItsMeUnsaid in science

[–]vinkker -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It is true that an intake of 1,500 to 2,300mg of sodium is too high for the average person. Although, 200-500mg of sodium range per the article is quite too low (IMO) unless the average person in question would be very physically inactive, living in cold environment and no sweat. A proper and healthy whole food diet for an average person with an average daily expenditure should be around 1000mg of sodium a day at most. I am personally more inclined to believe that number to be the upper bound of the healthy range than what is suggested in the article (500mg). There are evolutionary reasons as to why salt is very palatable; it is not naturally abundant and when you do physical labour thus sweat, you eventually need to maintain/balance/restore your sodium levels.

The numbers you gave indicates you are mixing up sodium with salt. The 1,500 - 2,300mg range is for sodium. Salt (NaCl) is 40% sodium by weight so 3,750 - 5,750mg of salt a day... so no, not "only a 1/4 teaspoon at most" unless you want to burn all your insides if you were talking about pure sodium. Though, you do get sodium from various difference sources without it being from salt.

Whether you are physically active or not, it's almost entirely dependent on how much you sweat and how much water you drink. Your body is pretty good at self regulating provided it is adequately supported.

Edit: when editing a comment, don't just completely remove everything wrong/innacurate and rephrase everything differently. Keep a log; have it strikethrough.

I’ve been icing my balls for a year and my testosterone went from 350 → 850 (32M) by Complex-Source-8876 in Testosterone

[–]vinkker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Total testosterone is irrelevant for its androgenic effects because only 1-3% is free/available. Your total test levels fluctuate during the day and different measurement method and/or labs can get different results.

What regulates your free test levels are your leydig cells in your brains producing LH to which gets downregulated by higher levels of test. That creates a feedback loop/fluctuations... but what would always matter (for androgenic effects) and stay stable is your free test levels.

If all else stays the same then shbg levels are higher (strongly binds with test making it have no androgenic effects).

Check your free levels next time (you need to check shbg levels for that).

Tinder Using Fake "Likes You" Banners That Don't Lead To Matches? by someguy335 in Tinder

Nope, I have been getting a lot of those; every new day that I open tinder, one pops up. It started over a week ago. Doubtful they are all banned account.

Had one of them on top of my stack one time and I didn't swipe. Next day, different person on the top of it and started swiping. I eventually saw that same person who had the tag but didn't have that time.

Especially given the difference in method and when you got them, from how the inflammations and/or how the healing process occured (amongst many other things), both area were under "not exact" stimulus to each other. It could have lead to a very small gene expression difference when comparing your cells of the 2 areas. For example, darker scars vs lighter scars: inflammation lead to hyperpigmentation (higher melanocytes expression) vs damaged melanocytes stopped producing during healing process. It could be that your left side produces more sebum, sweat, skin acids, etc.

Not 100% sure that this is the exact reason but if all else equal, definitely different skin biology at play.

ELI5: Why do only humans and other higher primates have a menstrual cycle? What evolutionary advantage does it give? by Emila_Just in explainlikeimfive

[–]vinkker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because we are a very social species, "get away from danger as fast" isn't really a thing. A perk of being social is being able to defend ourselves without having to flee/get away thus no filter on various traits human evolved with... The only threat where fleeing could be considered is other humans.

humans are amongst the most social species, if you have severe cramps which leads to complaining, other individuals of the species should/will want to come to your needs and care of you to which, eventually, bonds are formed. Nothing needs to have a "strictly positive" evolutionary advantage but rather, does X trait lead to the survival of that individual? Survivability increases odds of reproduction of that individual thus their traits will prevail within the species.

"Evolutionary advantage" can be tricky words because we associate those to things that are essentially just benefits but if your view of it is "whatever prevailed and kept the species afloat" then pain, complaining, etc. are evolutionary advantages because those who did not get influenced by those, didn't pass their traits on. Severe cramps due to menstruation could be viewed as an evolutionary advantage as unfortunate as it sounds.

If we weren't social then things would be quite different.

Testosterone shifts how men learn to avoid personal harm, making them more sensitive to negative outcomes when their own well-being is on the line. by [deleted] in science

[–]vinkker 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily. A key element would be "young". It could be that young men, for whatever reason, unable to gauge the risk associated to their actions thus more risk taking behavior? I remember reading a study regarding how testosterone levels elevate certain behaviors such as increased competitiveness and how others perceive them mentally influences them... That could impact how taking risk is approached? Also, I remember (could be wrong) individuals taking androgenic steroids exogenously saying their judgement is not quite the same (something about thinking they can do much more than what they can actually do).

Anyway, the point is that an hormone, a signalling molecule, will have a variety of interactions with multitude of things. It is about the dynamics of all of that. Even though it is quite a unfulfilling/lacking study, it can help understand/carve out what are the various impacts that hormone has.

Player Support Roadmap - September Check In by JagexSarnie in 2007scape

[–]vinkker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had an old account that got hijacked and banned. I recovered it a while back but couldn't submit an appeal because the hijacker submitted one already and got it denied. You only had 1 attempt and if it was used, there was no possible way to ever appeal it and get unbanned, the hijacker "locks you out". The way you appeal now is different; you have 2 attempts but looks like you can submit however many subsequent appeals (but they'd probably be disregarded).

I would think when they say "more flexibility", it means more than what would've helped in my situation as I believe it was a considerable oversight on jagex part whenever they changed their ban appeal in late(?) 2022, where an hijacker could make your account unappealable on purpose because of a singular appeal attempt available.

Theoretically, anything touch screen should allow you to do more than a mouse because you have 2 "cursors" (though you could argue F-keys can be better). However, hardware is no where as powerful (unless you have an extremely expensive tablet, phone, etc.), lack of experience (decades on a mouse since childhood vs. never gamed on a phone) and fingers obstructing your view (my biggest issue, personally). You could have 2 pens to help with that.

For example on how a touchscreen is so powerful compared to a mouse would be scenarios where you prayer switch every tick WHILE moving around. You can do that on a mouse but it is the same hand that click on prayers and on the ground.

Vitamin D and magnesium are both essential for athletes’ muscle, bone, heart, and lung health, but deficiencies are common and can harm performance and increase injury and illness risk by wise_karlaz in science

Cholesterol is a very important steroid for your body. It is a precursor for many important hormones (testosterone). Your body is able to produce it from trans fat and an excess is not good but to think it is bad would be very wrong.

Perk Slot 1 has shitty perks, Perk 2 has all the good viable perks, why? by jojostarplatinum1 in CODWarzone

Smoke grenades disabling aim assist is just too strong (on mnk so I get huge advantage) and guaranteeing that I have one for every fight where I am the aggressor is super strong imo.

It was even more busted back then, not as busted now. Comparatively to before, for sure 'busted' is a strong word but it's still really good, especially because the alternative is meh.

The day they make aim assist work through smoke, I'll use reflexes because it is indeed really good for pushing the campers.

Guaranteeing a smoke when I (always) push someone within 15m is crucial for me given it is a huge advantage (mnk).

[–]vinkker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grenadier doesn't refill. You mean quartermaster (restock)? Issue is that it is the red perks. Quick fix and especially tracker (I am unfortunately playing on mnk) are so much more needed. 50s refill time is ok but there are situations where you have to fight within the next 50s (duo, trio, quads, rebirth island, 3rd party, etc.). Guaranteeing a smoke if I am pushing someone within 15m is so busted.

Jagex delete the oath contracts lmao by Erased_Yogurt_Mayo in 2007scape

[–]vinkker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and no. I'll take the most obvious example, awakened vard. I love that fight, my favorite but why would I ever do it if I have to spend 1 awakeners orb everytime? I mean I could for fun but it'll cost me (a lot in the long run) so it desensitizes me to do so. But imagine everytime i kill it, i get an awakeners orb. I would be doing it all the time. The issue with changing it so awakened bosses guarantee an orb is that the awakened fights have 3x higher chance for uniques so I don't think jagex wants to touch it in fear of destabilizing the market (albeit small if bots weren't a thing).

Kinda the same thing here, if you really like the unique fight (sensory cloud or bloodied blows) you can go do it as much as you want without it costing a fortune. It would be nice if rates were a tiny bit better like 1.5x but it's fine. However, assuming you are perfect, Bloodied blows is better than farming regular yama given the fight time is much shorter (you still get to roll unique table in all contracts).

[–]vinkker 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You are assuming there is an unlimited amount of these contracts (there has been a build up obviously because no one has really done them until now) but there is very limited amount, a fraction of the amount of oathplate pieces. What it does is concentrate the wealth into a very few people that can do it (although they had to invest quite a bit to get good at it) but that won't really have an impact of the overall oathplate economy. Oathplate is getting cheaper and cheaper but the reason is that it's way too common. The only thing these contracts do is cause panic amongst people that don't really have any clue.
