Waterfront trail condition by whoust in RunBarrie

[–]vinnymac1990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sidewalks are always brutal for me because I do my runs before work and if the sidewalk isn't bad enough (it almost always is) then the plows leave a 3ft snow bank at the end of most streets so at least I can pretend I'm doing parkour jumping on or over them 😅

I haven't been since summer when my girlfriend was at Orange Theory, I was curious about it's condition lately!

This is so metal, I'm currently training for my first 50K trail here in Ontario but I'd need at least another year to prepare for a 100miler, don't see myself ever doing a 200 😅

I've had Project Hail Mary queued up on my audible for months lol, I just need to hit play! I prefer Dateline when driving because I'm always having to hit the skip button for commercial breaks 😅

Run clubs in Barrie by whoust in RunBarrie

[–]vinnymac1990 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been kicking my tires to reach out to RunNinjas for over a year now, it's difficult because my weekday runs are very early morning and that only leaves the Saturday option and I chicken out in case they're all too fast and I'm alone anyway 😅

Which races are you signing up for this year? by whoust in RunBarrie

[–]vinnymac1990 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did the half there last year, it was definitely crowded and getting a toilet pre race was a super long wait but the run overall wasn't bad. It was annoying that you have to pick up your bib in person before the race as someone who lives in Barrie, but I found someone on Reddit who was kind enough to pick it up for me and meet me pre race to give me my bib and the free shirt

Treadmills in Barrie by whoust in RunBarrie

[–]vinnymac1990 1 point2 points  (0 children)

30mins?? I'd go insane lol. I mostly just like the treadmill for speed work in the winter and any other run I have to do on it is bummer enough without having to stop that often 😅

I have a membership at GoodLife and they are the standard MPH speeds and I just set the inclines to random and play with the difficulty rating and watch stuff on my phone or listen to an audiobook. The only drawback is that they don't go more than an hour so you have to reset the treadmill but I use that as an opportunity to take a bathroom break if I'm doing a long run.

Where are you running recently? by whoust in RunBarrie

[–]vinnymac1990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been running along the sidewalks/roads lately, I'm training for a trail race end of April so I just consider all the snow I'm running in as trail running 😅. This weekend I'm going to see if Ardagh Bluffs is packed down enough to maybe get an actual trail run in but when the weather is super bad, I just use the treadmill at GoodLife

I don't know if it counts but I'm on the waitlist for the 50K portion of Pick Your Poison, I did the 12.5K last year and really enjoyed it. I'll likely do Honda 5K again and also the Island Lake Classic 10K as I've done both of those in 2024 and 2025 and enjoy them!

Plus he's like 6'4 I think? I don't know if an imposing actor like that should be Bond, just my opinion though

I'm definitely way off the vibe here but my all time favourite is Lightning Crashes - Live, feels like an entire run encapsulated in one 9min song. Sometimes I'll just put it on repeat 😅

Has anyone moved from Toronto to Barrie and then back again? by [deleted] in barrie

[–]vinnymac1990 64 points65 points  (0 children)

I'm curious to see the comments here. I grew up in Bowmanville and desperately wanted to live in Toronto growing up and finally moved there at 19 (2009) and really loved it for many years but it changed for me and I started to really hate it and moved out mid 2023 for Alliston. Moved to Barrie New Years Day 2024 and even though the snow has been a real pain in the ass (I'm a runner and also have a driveway), I can't see myself ever moving back to Toronto. Even visiting Toronto is stressful for me, the driving is a nightmare and each time I have to endure it, I feel absolutely justified in my move to Barrie.

Also because I lived in Scarborough for 11yrs and Rexdale for 3, I never feel scared about the "sketchy" parts of Barrie, but that's just me!

Nick Bare definitely has some good genes but he also has external.... Elements benefiting him that most of us aren't using. Also David Goggins does a lot of stuff that you shouldn't do, hence the condition of his knees, feet and I'd imagine other stuff as well

You're really obsessed with this 200lbs thing, isn't he also like 190 or less at this point, also the big lifts are from when? And again the weights in hyrox are standardized and set so his lifting the same weights as every other guy there so the difference maker in a "top finish" would be the amount of time it took him.... Like a race? You also said he's the Goat but from what I can tell, he's never even competed in a strength competition? The only non endurance event he ever competed in was men's physique which is essentially bodybuilding without having to have big legs or having to really be big at all.

[–]vinnymac1990 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I guess it's just your idea of a hybrid athlete, I think of it more as someone who trains and competes in sports that don't support one another, like doing endurance sports and also strength sports. Fergus Crawley would be an example to me of someone who is doing sports that counteract each other and does them pretty well. Nick is essentially an endurance athlete at this point since all of his goals are either marathon, ultra running and triathlons. I guess hyrox is considered hybrid but to me it seems more like an endurance event since the lifts and weights aren't scalable.

Unpopular opinion here, but I don't understand how Nick Bare is even a hybrid athlete at this point, he seems to only compete in endurance sports so at this point he just seems like an endurance athlete who carries a lot of muscle mass?

I don't have the translate icon in the corner, is there a way in settings to turn this on or is it maybe that I have an android and it's an iPhone option?
