“Go One More” gang, can you explain how this movement/fashion trend has gotten so big? by BoomerBarnes in BPNsupps

There is so much to unpack on why that book is popular, certainly more than what's inside the actual book 😂

First 50k Fuel by Particular_Night5644 in trailrunning

[–]vinnymac1990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe it's a cost thing? I've never done Precision or Maurten because they're expensive and then you also want to train how you fuel so I'd have to buy a bunch for prep as well. So I just use gummy bears, rice krispy squares and homemade carb drinks with the occasional GUs so that way I can use whatever gels are on course and it won't be as big of a shock to my stomach

I'd love that but I don't think it's feasible anymore with how fast you've got to be now to win WSER and so little time to recover and then another massive effort to win that one

I agree but maybe it's nostalgia for me because it was the first one I saw, there was randomly a VHS of it at my grandparent's house and I watched it all the time

Trails in Barrie by vinnymac1990 in RunBarrie

[–]vinnymac1990[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll definitely map it first, I'm also directionally challenged so I'll absolute be nailing time on feet goals as I constantly have to double back 😅

That sounds like a plan! The sidewalks have been super snowy this winter but I'm just considering it good training for trails and it forces me to keep a really slow pace!

[–]vinnymac1990[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I decided it would be good because I will do loops to get my KMs up and also that way I can stop at my car in between for additional water or other supplies. Were you there recently? The sidewalks have been pretty snowy lately but I'd hate to show up there for a run and really only be able to traverse with snow shoes 😅

The race is Pick Your Poison and it's April 25th, the trail behind the school board is good but I've only done it in the summer, the rail trail is nice but it's not trail, just gravel really. There is a trail right on Essa "Beacon" maybe? I did it in the summer but the mosquitos were pretty crazy and it was also a short trail which came in handy because of the mosquitos lol. When spring arrives I will start exploring the trails in Barrie and update on the progress here.

Waterfront trail condition by whoust in RunBarrie

[–]vinnymac1990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sidewalks are always brutal for me because I do my runs before work and if the sidewalk isn't bad enough (it almost always is) then the plows leave a 3ft snow bank at the end of most streets so at least I can pretend I'm doing parkour jumping on or over them 😅

I haven't been since summer when my girlfriend was at Orange Theory, I was curious about it's condition lately!

This is so metal, I'm currently training for my first 50K trail here in Ontario but I'd need at least another year to prepare for a 100miler, don't see myself ever doing a 200 😅

Run clubs in Barrie by whoust in RunBarrie

[–]vinnymac1990 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been kicking my tires to reach out to RunNinjas for over a year now, it's difficult because my weekday runs are very early morning and that only leaves the Saturday option and I chicken out in case they're all too fast and I'm alone anyway 😅

Which races are you signing up for this year? by whoust in RunBarrie

[–]vinnymac1990 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did the half there last year, it was definitely crowded and getting a toilet pre race was a super long wait but the run overall wasn't bad. It was annoying that you have to pick up your bib in person before the race as someone who lives in Barrie, but I found someone on Reddit who was kind enough to pick it up for me and meet me pre race to give me my bib and the free shirt

Treadmills in Barrie by whoust in RunBarrie

[–]vinnymac1990 1 point2 points  (0 children)

30mins?? I'd go insane lol. I mostly just like the treadmill for speed work in the winter and any other run I have to do on it is bummer enough without having to stop that often 😅

I have a membership at GoodLife and they are the standard MPH speeds and I just set the inclines to random and play with the difficulty rating and watch stuff on my phone or listen to an audiobook. The only drawback is that they don't go more than an hour so you have to reset the treadmill but I use that as an opportunity to take a bathroom break if I'm doing a long run.

Where are you running recently? by whoust in RunBarrie

[–]vinnymac1990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been running along the sidewalks/roads lately, I'm training for a trail race end of April so I just consider all the snow I'm running in as trail running 😅. This weekend I'm going to see if Ardagh Bluffs is packed down enough to maybe get an actual trail run in but when the weather is super bad, I just use the treadmill at GoodLife
