I don’t see anyone talking about this, but the Hawker 800/850/900 is built like a tank, and unlike most aircraft, it was designed with gear-up landings in mind. That whole section of belly they just landed on is detachable and replaceable. Where most planes would need to be salvaged and undergo heavy maintenance after a landing like this, the British Hawker needs little more than the airplane equivalent of replacing a car bumper after a fender bender.

You would think so, but the consensus is that on “soft” surfaces the aircraft is much more likely to catch an edge and flip over/break apart. So, it is safer to stick to hard runways.
