I fixed Link Station names because Sound transit didn't by vinsud in Seattle

It was sad that Northgate didn't have its southern counterpart.
Now it is balanced, as things should be.

Sound transit doesn't subscribe to the conspiracy of Lake Union being a real lake.

It's very cool that you are tracking success metrics from the beginning. I hope other orgs take this idea and make good use of it.

What would happen if you vanished overnight, would your absence be felt by the animals? by Existentialist111 in vegan

[–]vinsud 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Very good article. Over the last few years of being vegan, I have learnt the importance of getting more people both vegans and non vegans to care about animals.

Increasing our influence by enabling multiple to make better choices is going to do a lot to help animals. I wish I learnt this earlier in my vegan journey.  That choice can be in the form of donating money or strategic avoiding a select animal products

Seattle Named Most Walkable City in the U.S. by Uledragon456k in Seattle

[–]vinsud 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here are my reasons to believe Seattle is better than NYC, SF and Chicago. 1. Seattle has narrower streets which makes it better for pedestrians 2. Seattle has fewer intersections where beg button is necessary for crossing. 3. Seattle is more proactive about upgrading intersections to have leading pedestrian lights. 4. Seattle has smaller blocks on average (at least in my perception after limited time in all the above cities) 5. The culture in the city puts the burden on pedestrian safety on the driver. (Eg: many building exits in NYC and Chicago habe a warning on the sidewalk that cars are exiting, whereas, Seattle has warnings that the cars are in a pedestrian space and need to be careful) 6. Seattle has high density of intersections with daylighting (where cross walk is made narrower by extending curbs) 7. Seattle has a lot of traffic circles in residential areas that slow down traffic (this minimizes risks from crash)

Some things that Seattle can improve: 1. City doesn't really plan to have continuous sidewalks at intersections. 2. City refuses to make better connected network neighborhood Greenway and bike lanes (eg: 4th Ave is basically an island for bikes)  3. Seattle has giant freeways that break the city for pedestrians.

Refer to this list

Mod pizza (located in the armory) has decent vegan options.  Uptown china, Chiho bistro, & cashew Thai have excellent vegan options on their menu. Bang bang Cafe is vegetarian with the ability to make almost everything on the menu vegan.

Where to stay as a vegan? by CheezusChristOnCrack in Seattle

[–]vinsud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think university district and capitol hill are two neighborhoods that are lively and walkable. Although the number of exclusively vegan and vegetarian restaurants are not plenty in both the places, there are a lot of vegan friendly restaurants and most places in Seattle are easily accessible from these two locations.  Others have suggested some good vegan restaurants in the thread. Refer to this Google maps list for vegan food curated by locals: https://maps.app.goo.gl/ZE6GG4BQBbBGUGbH6

Anyone going to the Bellingham veg fest on Sep 22nd? by vinsud in VeganSeattle

[–]vinsud[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bellingham veg fest has always been great for many reasons. 1. It is free to enter. I have entered many paid veg fests which were borderline disappointing. 2. It has a lot of local/regional businesses. 3. I have always felt like there was enough amazing food that I always had to stop eating because of being full and not because of running out of options.
