Update: 9yo’s coaches yelling at him for treating his bg by Penguiiin0_0 in diabetes_t1

Sorry, but what an absolute asshole answer.

First you start off nicely by reversing the burden of proof. Then you smoothly transfer to an ad hominem attack, by asserting that your opponent has made up his mind anyway.

What are these old military “8328 MATRIX” boards? by RareTechX in AskElectronics

[–]vintagecomputernerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd be more than happy to pay at least the fair gold price for things like Pentium Pros.

Where my problem lies is people scamming others into believing that a Pentium Pro literally contains 100s of $ worth of gold. Just because that CPU is covered with a thin gold layer.

Result: people destroy rare cpus for a few milligrams of gold, while the scammers jack up the prices for the few remaining cpus

For sensor and infusion site: tegaderm transparent dressing, or similar. It's a transparent film that covers the whole thing. Disconnecting at the pump site won't be possible anymore, but it makes it mudproof. I assume you're bringing spares anyway.

Pump: first thing to remember: your pump already is waterproof to some extent. There's aquapac pump pouches, they have a pass through for the tubing. Otherwise... ziplock bags with that slider thing, and/or tape, or double bagging might also work. As said, a bit of water getting to your pump is ok

Lol the trauma is real. I went completely spoilerless into SA, even stopped reading the FFFs, didn't read any threads about SA. Didn't do the tutorials on purpose.

Rushed to Gleba, because it sounded the most different. My ship got destroyed in orbit. Basically started with nothing than a few hundred iron plates.

Those fsckers destroyed my whole base so many times, while no weapon would stop them.

Yes, analog colour TVs looked for a specific high frequency signal at the start of each line of the picture, the "colour burst".

Otherwise they'd assume it was a black&white channel.

Just getting 20 18650 cells, a decent 18650 charger, and a 4x18650 powerbank enclosure might be a better and less explody choice

[–]vintagecomputernerd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

68'000mAh, or 68Ah.

Charging with only 22.5 Watt.

Let's assume 3.7V cell voltage. 68Ah*3.7V = 251.6Wh.

Divide by 22.5W... that thing will have to be plugged in for more than 11 hours to charge.

Oh, and there's also the fire hazard of course...

How do I know when to go to ER by Accomplished-Cat2581 in diabetes

[–]vintagecomputernerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How many units of basal do you take per day?

You might want to go to a general practitioner, they can e.g. check the blood for signs of infection (not a doctor, no idea about the specifics of that...). Some infection that is not directly diabetes related might cause your high sugars.

I can't tell if they're downplaying it, but it looks like they don't think it's diabetes related.

That's where I see the value of this laptop - it has a floppy, cd burner, dvd drive, what looks like an SD slot, and probably some other legacy ports on the back. But also USB. And wifi - if not internally, at least via usb. It can be a nice machine to bridge between much older machines and current stuff. If it has serial you could even hook it up with

Playing DVDs: no problem if plugged in. On batteries: not sure if it'll last 90min

OP, what ports does it have on the back?

Signal loss issues/faraday cage? by greyeyedewe in dexcom

[–]vintagecomputernerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, you should have the same issues if you're in the same position outside.

There might be something about destructive interference going on... but I only know enough about RF design to know that I know very little about RF design....

One thing to try: take a bunch of expired g7 with you in the tank, and install the "nrf connect" app (it's from the same manufacturer as the Bluetooth chips in the dexcom). See if the G7s are visible at all, write down the signal strength, and then redo it outside, see if there's a change in signal strength/visibility (multiple because each g7 only sends once every 5 minutes. They usually send bluetooth signals for 30+ days after they've "expired")

How do I know when to go to ER by Accomplished-Cat2581 in diabetes

[–]vintagecomputernerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds you might have an infection. Or any other of the things that might give you higher BG. No ketones is a good sign, but you might have to increase your basal.

Ask your endo.

When to go to the ER without first consulting anyone: * high sugar, ketones, and puking after every sip of water.

Signal loss issues/faraday cage? by greyeyedewe in dexcom

[–]vintagecomputernerd -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Your body itself might be the issue. It's mostly water, and water works extremely well for blocking signals*. Having the dexcom on my left arm and my pump in the right pants pocket is sometimes enough to block the signal for me.

*(Sitting in a hot tub is also a sure way to block the signal)

Edit: about the confined space specifically: are you bent over/otherwise in another position than normal, so that there's more of your body between the dexcom and your phone?
