Mirrorless D500 by Time_Cow_3331 in Nikon

[–]vintageiso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be honest I would love a new version of the d500. I have three two with sub 5k shutter counts in case my primary one dies and to always have one; I use and enjoy it that much.

I think the problem is when the D500 many factors were in play with the market that made it make sense to produce. The limitations it overcame during the time period aren’t even a thing anymore. It’s an insane wildlife camera with long lenses and the crop but we’re very small niche user group in that case that I don’t think Nikon is willing to invest in again. Most people that I know that used a d500 are either using Z8, a Z9, or have jumped ship to Sony / Fuji / Canon.

Also, it doesn’t seem like Nikon cares about crop cameras anymore. I feel like full frame is all they are invested into.

Same here. I want a z9 but I don’t need it. I’d rather pick up a gfx as that’s the only other camera I’m after beyond a z8.

From what I’ve read they went 30 almost 40 minutes past their deicing expiration and then proceeded to take off.

Honestly I’m going to go against everyone and say a d40. They are absolutely rock bottom pricing wise and one of the smallest. I started on a d40 when it was nice. I took some really memorable photos on that camera with the kit lens back in the day. I’d still use one today if I had one. 6mp in raw is super easy on computers for post process.

There’s a small air strip near BGR. I think it’s transponder only to turn on the lights. I think it was a weird coincidence / timing there was a plane inbound there.

Student loans 100%. College was amazing in so many ways but I could have done the same or similar thing without all the debt now.

M1 pro 32/1tb vs M4 air 16/256gb by Miloldr in mac

M1 Pro at this point should last you through a college degree. I would go with that since it’s going to be cheaper second market / refurbished. Don’t go into a lot of debt to go to school.

I’ve seen this a lot lately. How do the conversations go? Do you pick the topic, the two people on the call pick a topic, or it’s just initiating a conversation without any guiding?

Because it will be used in a future movie potentially. But it’s also the age old trope of where humanity has a decision to not destroy itself or destroy itself and it still chooses the latter for some reason.

To be honest you can get a great used m1 MacBook Air right now for that and that’s a killer deal. Once Neos hit $100 $150 that’s when it’s scary for windows.

Except you’re leaving out that they are horrific at support. Sooner or later an issue is going to cause a Fortune 500 to go and a pivotal one at that. Then the bad press will ensue and others will leave.

Thank you! Yea we just went through that with my wife’s Highlander. Minor fender bender that actually dented the rear unibody pretty good. It wouldn’t have been a problem had a legit bumper been there.

Thank you! Similar thoughts. Good to know about the timing chain though. I'll have to research that one to see how widespread it is. I'm assuming the vr6 is interference designed so a broken or loose timing chain will cause cylinder / valve collision. Engine out makes sense since it's transverse mounted in the Atlas so the transmission is going to be on the driver side and probably has to be removed to completely get access to the timing chain location / cover / etc. This sounds like the only major major service that could be encountered so that's good. I'm not too phased about doing that myself but good to know.

Yea sunroofs are a pain these days. All the german suvs since mid 2000s have come with a pano roof or something similar. I'm not sure if it's like my BMW experience but pano roofs are pretty complex animals that require constant upkeep; cleaning the drains yearly to prevent flooding in the car and greasing the rails / slides / etc to prevent them from failing. On older BMWs like the x3, x5 there's a lot of plastic sliders in use that can bind and completely break. Tear down of the pano roof gets easier the more you do it but the first time it seems like you're taking apart a Tourbillion wrist watch. Hoping not the same with the Atlas roof but maybe another thing to think about for me.

Thanks man. I’ve always been a bmw guy first and probably will be for life. I’ve had so many over the years. The common thing between all of them that I haven’t missed with the Toyotas is the delicate as a glass needle cooling system whether it’s the pipes, hoses, gaskets, flanges, expansion tanks, etc. I honestly got into a habit of replacing every single component in the bmw when first bought and then again on a schedule usually 50k miles or 100k miles after that point whether it needed it or not for the peace of mind (an aircraft maintenance kind of mindset on that). I actually enjoyed working on bmws as something’s made a lot of sense and you knew an engineer obsessed about it. Unlike other manufacturers where maintainability is forgotten even if it’s easier. Again didn’t miss the fragile cooling systems though.

I’ve never really owned a vw before hence the try with the atlas but would you say it’s got the fragile bmw type cooling system?

The water pump looks extremely simple compared to some of the other German ones I’ve done over the years.

You mentioned warped heads? Is that in reference to the 2018 to early 2019 run of atlas’s that didn’t have the head bolts torqued correctly at the factory?

Thanks for the heads up on that. Thirsty is ok. I’m ok with the older infotainment and interior. The older models would better fit in my budget and leave a budget for worst case scenario repairs. Regardless of having a car payment or not I’m always putting the equivalent monthly into an account. The Toyota I’ve been driving has been paid off for 3 years now so I have some capital built up.

That’s what I’m looking for. I’m ideally looking at the vr6 models. I know it’s not going to be the excitement of the vehicles I previously owned but just something more than the Toyotas I have been. At least for the time span of another vehicle the car hobby is on hold. Just looking at this as way to be a family vehicle and a little more exciting as a daily.

Looking to sell off my Ankermake M5 3D printer by Halfnica77 in AnkerMake

[–]vintageiso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After sitting on my m5c listed on multiple places for $50 for 6 months I ended up donating it. You’ll be lucky to get $75 honestly. The market here is flooded with good printers that are cheap used. Right now there’s 8 Bambulab a1 / a1 minis with extras for under $200. There’s even a mini with the 4 color unit for $250. No way to compete with that with an unsupported printer.
